the content and the flow of the stories really emphasize eachother, wonderfully written.
Everthing in it, is such good information and what i most loved, is the peace of mind i got with how to deal with my girl.
I was clueless and had researched and looked the entire world for answers.

Title: The best gift you can give to your daughter is by reading this book

Review: This book is an eye opener. It's very approachable, explains a lot of things that happen not only inside your daughter's head, but also inside your own head. I cannot recommend this book enough! Our friend has this book by her bedside table (she has two teenage daughters). We bought two of these books for me and my partner.

Title: Some good insights and suggestions

Review: Much of this book was geared towards girls who are in a traditional school setting. I wish that it had been more universal. Most problematic was the discussion of cliques/tribes that girls supposedly typically organize them selves into, but that I don’t know apply to every girl. But that being said, I was still able to glean some useful insights, advice and suggestions, in terms of helping my daughter transition well into adulthood.

Title: Had great points, but very disappointing (too woke) on certain topics

Review: The author draws on her counseling experience and covers a wide range of issues from phone use, bullying, to eating disorder. It is helpful in showing parents that conflicts are normal and helpful to girls' growth. Boundaries have to be set, otherwise girls will seek out truly dangerous activities. What is disappointing is that this level-headed analysis is all thrown out when it comes to gender identity and sexual orientation. On these issues, the author faithfully follows the progressive cliché of affirming whatever kids want or "identify". She even advices a pair of parents not to suggest to their girl that her feelings of sexual orientation might change in the future because that will sound like the parent is "invalidating" the girl. The author contradicted herself in forgetting how many other bad ideas parents have to invalidate when bringing up children and the attention-seeking nature of the girls' behavior on all other issues. I almost threw out the book on that, but then kept it after remembering the good points throughout the other chapters.

The author cites data, which is great, but data is often used to paint a grim picture that statistically a large percentage of teenagers engage in sex or alcohol or drug and therefore it is futile for parents to install a strict rule when peers are bad, but I want to point out that the data when quoted in percentage or average is misleading because there are solid (even if small) communities within which families and peers are adhering to a much higher standard (because of either religion or immigrants' culture). Parents do not have to give up what is morally right just because on average American parenting are permissive and weak.

Title: Good points but frustrating at times

Review: My wife and I are high school teachers who work with dozens of teenage girls every year. Many of the points she makes are valid and in every strand and anecdote, I see certain past and present students and experiences. There is one major area of disagreement and inconsistency in her logic i find frustrating.

On the one hand she states we should not just lay down the rules, we should explain their purpose in the context of safety, or personal social dynamics of future prospects. I complete agree. But then she basically tells us we HAVE to accept them breaking rules like drinking, smoking, going to parties, and sex. Because if we tell them no they will do it anyways. I reject this. If I explain the reasons for these rules, they should follow them. All studies show teenagers are better off careerwise, financially, and socially if they hold off on all of these as long as possible. We frankly do not care about their tribe when it does to their future. They will make more and better friends in college and career. Any friend willing to dump them because they did not drink at a party or didn't attend is not a real friend. No teenager needs to have sex and boyfriends and drama distract from the main goal...grades and career readiness.

I am no prude, I know what teens do. But I will vigorous work with my daughter to make sure she understands our expectations and why they are there for her benefit.

Title: Astoundingly good insights on feminine adolescents.

Review: The way the author lays out the emotional and social developments of female youth is so well written and elaborated, heart warming and breaking in spots. Most of all it's informative, pragmatic, scientific and professional. In a vicarious sense I can now better understand a young woman's progression and conflicts.
