Review: This book, like the whole series, focuses on select white-collar professions, and adds to the pressure for kids to achieve, achieve, achieve. It glorifies workaholic values, and leaves out things like feeling, family, empathy, etc. I guess when you read this to your child, you also might as well be harping on them: "Hey, don't you wanna be like Ada Twist? Don't you wanna have an all-encompassing career? What's wrong with you? Don't you want to be an obsessed perfectionist? Won't that make you happy?" Also left out are jobs and trades that the vast majority of people actually work in, which are neither glamorous nor lead to parental bragging rights (i.e., "Yes, my daughter's an ARCHITECT...."). I guess those professions are too shameful to write about ("Jimmy Brook, Line Cook"? "Laila Spade, Teacher's Aide"? "Hector Shriver, Garbage Truck Driver"?). When I see these books hanging up in a preschool it makes my stomach turn.

Review: My kids and I LOVE love loooove this book! It is about a girl who didn't say a word until she was three -likely because she was taking it all in and mastering it on her own. At least that's our theory. She is really curious, adventurous, and is remarkably tenacious; determined to solve the puzzles and mysterious of life around her.My kids favorite part (other than her great escape at 3) is the part where she starts to put the cat in the washer to freshen it up because it stinks. LOL... hilarious in how wrong they know that is! & how much THEY'D like to try it out to see what would happen.....what kind of reaction will THEIR parents have?! Mmmhmmm.Ada's parents are calm and while they discuss what should be done, Ada's natural curiosity gets her into another mess. I liked how throughout the book, her family allowed her the freedom to be true to interests and kept calm and found creative ways to honor her intense personality that worked for them all.
