Review: I stayed at The Inn At Twin Linden in Churchtown, PA many times during the years when Bob and Donna Leahy owned it, and also after the Leahy's sold the inn and moved on. Donna Leahy was indeed a wonderful chef at the inn, and the food served there was second to none. While the inn is still there under the new ownership, I truly miss the days when the Leahy's owned and ran the inn. This cookbook is a wonderful reminder of the excellent food that was served at the inn when Donna Leahy was the chef. I feel blessed to have found it here on Amazon since it is now out of print, and I feel blessed to have personally known the Leahy's.

Review: This book has recipes that are my favorites now. I highly recommend it if you like to cook! None of them
are so complicated and time consuming, that it takes the fun out of cooking something new. Good
instructions and nice selection of different courses. I will always enjoy this book.......and the wonderful
photographs make it even more enchanting.

Review: This book has a lot of pretty photographs. There’s a long introduction and a lot of interstitial personal essays. If the part of what you love about recipe blogs are the stories, we have a book for you.

When something is framed as a cookbook for a country inn, I am expecting good comfort food and fairly straightforward fare like you could expect at a typical bed and breakfast. I’d expect the weight towards things that are modular and relatively easy to assemble for a diverse group of palates. Instead, there’s a lot of fussy dishes. A LOT. For example, there’s egg dishes that require three or four pans and way too many back-and-forth steps for someone keeping things handy for a quick B&B service. For inland Pennsylvania, there’s a LOT of seafood dishes with heavy weight towards lobster. There’s a lot of frou frou souffles and fussy sides. Very few of the recipes make me think less “Country Inn” and more “Myopia Induced by Multigenerational Wealth.”

I’m not sure I can trust a chef that moves from multiple cookbooks about baking for breakfast to multiple paleo cookbooks. I actively distrust a chef that uses the phrase “Salt is an acquired taste.”

So while spending a lot of time home during the 2020 lost year and cooking at home a lot, we decided it was time to review what cookbooks were on the shelves. It was time to see if there was something we wanted to make out of these books, or if they were unjustly taking up space and energy from better books. If we couldn’t see ourselves using the books, then we determined whether or not we would want to pass these along to someone who might. Considering this is a chef that does not salt their food, I have to assume these recipes have never been tasted by discerning palates. As such, I can’t in good conscience do anything with this cookbook but send it to the recycle bin. May you be reborn as an Amazon box!

Review: Donna Leahy has done something few cookbook authors do: write a book that's not just a collection of terrific recipes, but a beautifully written, witty and touching story about following a dream. As a result of the book, my wife and I not only make her recipes at home, but actually went to their inn and enjoyed a deliciously romantic weekend in all aspects. Donna, and her husband, Bob, are the consumate hosts. I cannot recommend this book (and their inn) highly enough.
