Title: Great read to be familiar with the epic

Review: A much more linear read than Jaya (Mahabharata) and much less complicated. I have come to the conclusion that Ramayana is the more popular epic because I was already familiar with almost all parts of the story. The book puts Sita at the center of the story and she comes across as very strong and independent, contrary to my expectations for a female character in an ancient epic. Ram on the other hand seems to have made plenty of blunders and is not projected as some ultra divine character. His actions are always driven by what people will think as opposed to what he thinks is right. Overall interesting read!

Review: This is not just a story called "Ramayana"....this is, in fact, a comprehensive treatise on the ideology of true Dharma.... the cultivation, protection and sustained practice of unflinching loyalty to one's sense of duty. Devdutt Patnaik, in his inimitable style interprets and expands on the characters and events that make up the wonderful epic, keeping Sita as the protagonist from whose perspective the epic is explored.
The beauty of the writing is in its simple narration yet hard-hitting rationale, in-depth analysis of characters, their roles and exploits and the significance of events and milestones in shaping the destiny of a civilization as it grows, and leaving in its wake, a rich treasure trove of wisdom, encouragement and inspiration.

Review: A very we'll researched book. Throws light on the epic from different perspectives. I was able to relate to and the understand the different versions of the epic that I have come across. Altogether an interesting and clarifying read!

However it didn't come through as well as "Jaya" the author's similar work on the other great epic ' Mahabharat'. But then I have always been more partial to Mahabharat than to Ramayana :-) .

Review: I liked the effort spent in researching in the local folklore. I used to think what I was told to believe was the Valmiki' version of ramayana. i liked the stance taken by the book : no Ramayana is complete and hence is preferable over the other. Truly I see a striking parallels with the open source development -take the best from each flavour and compile your own (ramayana).

Coming to the picture work, I would have preferred the ones by Bapu ( aTelugu Artist known for his Ramabhakti)
I would like the kindle version to have a justified text not just centre aligned.

Review: Loved it for the compilation, the art of narration. Certain stories I had not heard before. The notes after each story were the best as they give the background and origin of where they come from. This book shows enormity of Ramayana. I had great time reading it, there were some shocking stories too. All in all a great read.

Review: I purchased e-book and found it not so convenient on kindle app in my iPad. I would recommend reading this book as I like the way the author presents the topic. I would suggest buying a hardcopy edition. In addition to this I would also suggest reading JAYA from the same author which is on Mahabharata.

Review: I'm a beginner to Hinduism and found the story easy to understand - even though I knew none of the culture beforehand. The story itself is wonderful. I liked the footnotes because they're on the same page as the text: no going to back of the book to look them up. The drawings are WONDERFUL and add something to the feel of the story. My next book in Jaya by same 'reteller': Devdutt Pattanaik - Mahabharata.

Review: Loved the book :) Very powerful description of SITA whom we generally have a notion of the lady who suffered the most injustice. But this book describes her to be an INDEPENDENT character. ever happy, wise a perfect for a Goddess :) :)
