A spin-off from the #1 Amazon bestsellers, A Not So Meet Cute and So Not Meant To Be, USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn brings you a heart-warming, yet hilarious full-length novel on what life is like after the happily ever after.

Ryot Bisley is my husband.

Yes, the former third baseman for the Chicago Bobbies and absolute heart throb of the Windy City. That Ryot Bisley.

The first time I ran into him, he was grumpy, a horrific host, and left me on his sofa with nothing but a nylon baseball flag to use as a blanket.

Title: OMG Meghan Quinn Has Blown My Mind!
Date: Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on December 11, 2022
Review: Myla and Ryot met many years ago, had a random encounter while Myla was eating his grapes on his couch, while her best friend, Nichole was upstairs with Ryotโ€™s brother, Banner. An interesting way they met, but from that moment on, Myla and Ryot liked one another. Fast forward, twelve years later, Myla and Ryot were married, in a new house, Ryot focused on his new thriving, successful business. Seemed like everything was going well right? Wrong. Myla asked Ryot for a divorce, and from there it snowballed into Ryot trying to fight to save his marriage, fix the issues between him and Myla. Marriage on the rocks, emotional, a different take compared to Meghanโ€™s other books, but it was all fantastic.

Anytime I get another book by Meghan Quinn, Iโ€™m so excited and with Myla and Ryotโ€™s story I couldnโ€™t wait to dive in. From the moment I started the prologue, I found myself zooming through the pages, I was hooked right away! I always love when books have dual point of views because I get to read each characters side of their story, and also some details that later prove significant to the storyline. Myla and Ryotโ€™s story was deep, emotional, and raw. Meghan wrote this book in her usual writing that I know and love from the sprinkles of humor, love, and of course spice, but there was an added level of emotional depth that took me by surprise in the best way possible. The story line of Myla and Ryot facing divorce might have sounded straightforward, but with Meghan behind the story, she created a unique story and characters with heart and the ability to pull you in right from the beginning.

I really loved seeing the past chapters because, it showed the different point in the years that Myla and Ryot were together. From their direct messaging, meeting up again on the night that Ryot got called to the Majors, to them dating and everything in between. The past chapters not only showed the progression in Myla and Ryotโ€™s relationship, but how they initially were as they got to know each other. Based off the past chapters, Mylaโ€™s personality was highlighted more from her being outspoken, confident, and did as she pleased. Mylaโ€™s attitude was fun and I loved how she had her motto of not caring about what others thought, she went about her life living to the fullest, and her personality reflected that. Ryot seemed grumpy at the beginning, but with more time spent getting to know Myla, not only was he falling for her, but he started to unwind and relax compared to the high stress of playing baseball brought. Most stories usually focus on the meet cute, and all the nuisances of new love, but with Myla and Ryot it was about seeing everything from beginning, middle, and the present when the story takes past. Showing how Myla and Ryot were before they got married or even just before all the issues started in their marriage illustrated the beauty in their relationship and how different they had changed over the years.

Myla and Ryot had so much going on from the divorce to unresolved issues, and trying to navigate their lives with the new unknown facing them. Myla felt like there was no other way besides getting a divorce from Ryot, whereas Ryot couldnโ€™t imagine his life without Myla. Each person had their own feelings towards their differences, but even with the petty arguments and passive aggressive behavior, Myla and Ryot still loved each other. Looking at the past chapters, it was easy to see the love that Myla and Ryot formed, so to see them in the present at odds with one another made me sad for them. I was just waiting for the moment they would reconcile with one another, but in the meantime, both Myla and Ryot had to overcome their differences/ issues.

The more I read, the more I realized just how different this was compared to Meghanโ€™s other books. I absolutely love Meghanโ€™s writing style, her books, and everything, and this story felt like a new branch off of her usual story, but with an added emotional pull. Myla and Ryotโ€™s relationship was passionate, raw, beautiful, heartbreaking, and also had moments of joy, laughter, and all around lightheartedness. This book really did pack a punch when it came to some of the deeper emotional parts of the story. Now I understand what people meant when they said this was different compared to Meghanโ€™s other books, but also how it left them all types of emotions from sad, happy, and straight up crying while reading this book.

Now reading this story in the illustrated version added so much more since I was able to have visuals of Myla and Ryot. While I would say that Iโ€™m an imaginative person, having actual pictures while I read is great! From some funny moments, to sad moments, and even the spicy scenes, I got to see it all. Honestly, if youโ€™re able to get the illustrated book, I would say go for it. I personally got both because, I couldnโ€™t decide on just one, and because I love Meghan Quinn so much, I wanted both. Anyways, back to what I was saying, the illustrated book was fantastic! Seeing Myla and Ryot in the book gave me a better idea as to how they looked, or were in certain situations. Of course, seeing the spicy scenes in this book was another level that had my heart rate spiking, and feeling genuinely hot and bothered haha (in a good way). The spice in this book was amazing! Even though there were some sad/heavy moments throughout the story, the spice didnโ€™t diminish or take away from the main storyline. Meghan writes some of the best spicy scenes Iโ€™ve ever read, and this book took my breath away. So, you can imagine that when I saw the actual visuals for the spicy scenes, I was blown away, and was like, โ€œWOW! So thatโ€™s what it looks like when theyโ€™re in that specific positionโ€ HAHA!

Oh my gosh, this was such a whirlwind of an emotional rollercoaster. I legitimately have a book hangover after reading this, and itโ€™s totally worth it. The story was beautiful, heartfelt, emotional, focused on some heavy topics so please check trigger warnings. Most of all, Myla and Ryotโ€™s story was unlike any I have read before. Yes Iโ€™ve read some books with the marriage on the rocks/ reconciliation trope, but the way that Meghan wrote this book was a different approach on it, and honestly blew me away. There were some moments, that I got a bit emotional, and made me look at Myla and Ryotโ€™s relationship in a new light. With a mixture of everything from lighthearted, to sad, this story had a good balance. The illustrations were fantastic *especially during the spicy scenes haha. This book was overall phenomenal and I loved every second of it. Myla and Ryot ended on a great note, and I loved the epilogue seeing them living their life as a new chapters, and the endless possibilities to their happiness.

Title: Unusual romance novel
Date: Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on December 23, 2022
Review: I love this author, her writing is consistently good and I have read a lot of her books. This one was a bit of a departure from typical romance tropes as the couple being written about have been married about 6 years and known each other 12.

There are moments that I laughed out loud. Moments I was mildly scandalized and moments my eyes flooded with tears. There were also moments of frustration which I think is a natural response to paying witness to the break down of a marriage for the reasons provided in the book. At the 50% mark of the book I wanted to stop reading and write a passionate review about this marriage, but I'm glad I finished the book first because there were things revealed later that made some of the frustrating behaviors make sense.

All in all this was a well written story and refreshing because it's just not something I see often.

Having said that I would like to discuss aspects of the story and that discussion would include spoilers so please stop reading at this point if you haven't read the book yet.

So like a lot of readers, I struggled to fully like and support the main female character for a good 50% of the book. I'm unsure at this point if this was by design by the author...or maybe a oversight in terms of laying out the character motivations a little too late in the story for people to have context for her behaviors.

It's made apparent that these people met and have essentially been in love for 12 years. That the husband is a good man, a good provider, a protector, amazing in the sack, etc... the scene is set so it appears this woman is like a spoiled and kept housecat. Married to someone with wealth, not working, spoiled and indulged and bored and lonely because he is so obsessed with his career. Her primary complaint is the last "few months" he's been physically and emotionally absent while establishing a new business.

This is one of the rare times I struggled to suspend disbelief. Romance novels are generally fantasy based. Most of us are well aware that the situations, circumstances and people in these stories aren't based in reality and we read these stories anyway, because it's a fantasy. In this case, it was difficult to remain in the fantasy for me as the reader because too much of the marriage story was similar to real life. With exception to the wife's very unrealistic and childish reactions.

As a wife of 15 years who has been home and provided for, very well, by a man who is successful and decent but also a workaholic, I know from experience that it takes more than 2 or 3 months of feeling neglected to decide to divorce someone after over a decade of happiness by their side. I was completely baffled at how shortsighted this woman was... I could have understood a few YEARS of that behavior and deciding to call it quits but a few months? I couldn't wrap my mind around it. While I found their petty fighting and antics to be both hilarious and frustrating I simply couldn't fathom how little it took to make her want to divorce. And I couldn't fathom how insensitive she was to the fact this man she's with lost his dream overnight and might be spiraling and in need of support.

Having said that, the second half of the book lays out her history of neglect and abuse and her trauma and quirks which then explain somewhat why she is so quick to run...and I can't help but wish that part of her character had been relayed earlier.

Anyway, I enjoyed the story, I found their love and relationship over the years to be charming and sweet and I rooted for them both to find happiness in each other. Oh and one last thing...the spicy scenes were shocking and smoking hot ๐Ÿ”ฅ ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ there are things this man let her do to him that my husband would be terrified to let me do and honestly my jaw hit the floor a couple times. Hot is an understatement.

Title: A hilarious and heartbreaking peek into marriage
Date: Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on January 20, 2023
Review: "I cling to him like heโ€™s a lifesaver, helping me stay afloat, yet . . . heโ€™s also the thing drowning me."

All married couples should read Untying the Knot. It's such a beautiful, heart-warming story that rings true to marriage AND mental illness.

Myla had a rough childhood. She erected steel barriers around her heart and fights against Ryot's affections tooth and nail...but she just can't stay away from him. From the first time they saw each other during The Great Flag Incident, there was an unmistakable pull that neither could fight.

Their courtship spans years and various states. With each interaction, a piece of the barrier around Myla's heart chips away, and with each chip, you get to see just how dedicated Ryot is this woman and making her his.

I know a lot of people didn't like Myla. They called her selfish and unlikeable. I loved her though. She was a mess and she was honest about it. She constantly warned Ryot about her poor coping skills and that she would eventually run him off, and instead of leaving her, he took on the burden and swore to protect her for the rest of their lives.

โ€œBecause Iโ€™m supposed to be the strong one, Myla. Iโ€™m the one who is supposed to do the protecting. Iโ€™m the one who is supposed to take care of you. Not the other way around.โ€

Eventually, Ryot's protective instincts drive a rift between them. Instead of confiding in his wife, he does whatever he can to protect her from what he feels are his own failings...but it backfires. Horrendously.

Untying the Knot may be the best book I've read in years. It made me laugh and cry and I never wanted it to end. Ryot and Myla were perfect for each other, and I hope they keep making appearances in future books!
