Review: As I read Professor Smith's book, I found myself wishing that my parents had this book to help them navigate the years of heartbreak endured while trying to cope with a troubled adult child. DIFFICULT exposes the fear and anxiety faced by mothers who just don't know how to deal with their child who cannot function in society, and time and time again return home for shelter. Professor Smith has opened the doors to a taboo subject and given a voice with her study to many mothers from different backgrounds. The stories we hear are heartbreaking; however, the message of the book is not hopeless. There is an enormous amount of information that lays out in detail how you can help yourself and your adult child stay safe.

Review: Judith Smith's book is well-written, easy to understand and will provide great comfort to mothers of children with mental illness, addiction, and even failure to launch. Readers will feel understood and encouraged to make changes that will improve their lives in ways that take into consideration their love for their adult children.

Title: Really expensive for not a good book

Review: This book is about a very small sample of mothers who have difficult adult children. The mothers are nearly all low-income and in their 60s. The author recruited from people who had been victims of Elder Abuse. This is not a very generalizable book. Wasn't made clear before I bought it that this would not apply to my situation.
