Title: Missing half of the book

Review: The content of the book is great, it has good explanations, diagrams, etc. However, the book I bought from Amazon is not the complete textbook. Although it includes the table of contents listing all 29 chapters, really it cuts off in the middle of chapter 16 and skips to the Index. I had no idea I was missing half of the book. Now I am in a bind because I have a test this weekend up until chapter 17. Plus, I will be needing the rest of the chapters for future tests. It didn't say anywhere that the book I was purchasing was only half...false advertisement because the customer assumes they are purchasing the complete product.

Review: I bought this book when I was halfway through my semester of Anatomy and Physiology 1 because I opted for only the online version of the newer book, due to cost. I decided to give this book a shot because it was only $20!!! Totally worth the money. The book is more or less exactly the same as the newer edition. With the exception of a couple chapters that were added to the other book, the words in this book are verbatim. It is well worth the $20 to buy this book even if it's just for a reference to sit on your shelf. They don't change enough things in one years time to completely discount this edition. Came quickly and was in good condition.

Title: Great book for people heading into healthcare professions

Review: I am a student planning to head into the healthcare and this book is the most detailed textbook I've ever had. Anatomy & Physiology is a 2-sequence course that nearly everyone that heads into healthcare has to take, and there are many misconceptions or stories about the course material. Naturally, A&P is a challenging course, but with a good instructor, good study habits (& motivation to study), and a good textbook, you should be set!

The authors of the book, Tortora & Derrickson try their best to explain difficult concepts to the reader in a way that isn't super complex, but relatively reasonable. The diagrams and pictures are AWESOME at pointing out different body parts, and my favorite part are the explanations of physiology diagrams--such as the skeletal muscle contraction process (everyone knows this, right?). The authors number the steps in the picture and in the nearby text, are the same numbers with explanations telling you what is happening. I followed the steps in the picture and then looked at the explanations, which assisted me in understanding the whole process. It was very helpful in learning the different systems and actions performed by various cells.

A must have for any student heading into healthcare field!!

Title: Solid textbook

Review: It is a great textbook. I bought the ebook format because is cheaper vs.a regular textbook. As a side note, don't buy your textbooks from the college/university's bookstore, unless you like to be ripped-off. I liked the quality of the diagrams. The author tends to go into a lot of details which makes the material overwhealming when studying for A&P, and makes the material harder to digest. To support the information presented, the textbook has a lot of helpful case studies. What I liked about the ebook format was the easiness to search for a specific term or disease.

Con:It has few errors throughout the text.

Overall, I think this is a neat textbook to embark upaon the awesome study of the human body.

Title: Look elsewhere

Review: AH! This is the ultimate fear I have renting books. It is extremely damaged. It's only holding together due to a tape layer on the binding. Some of the pages are glued in the center to the front cover preventing them from being opened. The cover doesn't fit over the back of the book's pages. Very disappointed.

Title: Broken when received!

Review: The box used for shipping this book was too big and I am guessing that during the shipping someone dropped it because a corner of the box was badly dented. This would not have been a problem if the book would have came to my door in still working condition BUT once I opened the book I noticed that the inner binding of the book was damaged and the pages were falling out. The only good thing about ordering this book was that I ordered it brand new and from amazon which they agreed to send me a brand new one again. It was frustrating that I had to send it back for another one but I was still happy that amazon gave me another one. Suggestion to amazon: better packaging could save you the hassle of sending another book next time.

Review: Just a tip. Get the ebook if you can. I bought the textbook and returned it because it was HUGE and heavy. The ebook is cheaper, you can quickly look for key words, skim pages, highlight and add notes. You can also find out the definition of terms quickly by just touching it (which you will do often). Searching for terms is a breeze using the search key (you will also use this often). And it's very easy to maneuver. I hate ebook a but this is the exception.

As far as content, it's pretty easy to understand if you keep up with the evolution of terminology (or keep highlighting to refresh your memory of its definition).

Title: Soft cover is a far superior alternative to hard cover!

Review: A good enough A&P, it's clear and concise. If it's what your class recommends, then go ahead and get it.
But if you're on the fence about soft cover versus hard, I HIGHLY recommend this version more. It's easy to pop into a 3-ring binder, and then if you want to take chapters into school, it's a simple matter of putting the desires chapters into a much smaller binder and taking them in! Your back and shoulders will thank you. I bike in several miles, so having this option took a load (literally) off my shoulders.
