Title: Great book for any curious child! I wish I could give it 10 stars!
Date: Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2022
Review: We checked this out of the library after seeing lots of recommendations for it, and my 4 year old loves it so much we had to buy our own copy.
The explanations are very clear, and so carefully written to not make any assumptions about how any reader may have been conceived. The thought that went into ensuring that every family and child can be represented by the same book is wonderful and rare.
It sticks only to the topic of conception (rather than any specific act or genitalia) and the materials needed for it (sperm, egg, and uterus for baby to grow in) and doesn't assign parenting roles to any of the participants - so this book is equally relevant for a child conceived the traditional way, via sperm or egg donor, surrogate, or adoption.
It gives opportunities for the reader to insert their own story, and share with the child how they were created, who was excited about them and waiting for them to be born.
Seriously wonderful! Can't wait to buy other books by this author as our kids grow.

Title: What makes a baby?
Date: Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2022
Review: This book does a really nice job at answering the question βwhat makes a babyβ. It uses proper terminology for all body parts involved, and is gender inclusive. It is designed for grades K-2, and explains sex in a factual way without getting too in depth. I am a future health educator so I got this book to use for a second grade curriculum.

Title: Simple and inclusive
Date: Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2022
Review: This book is the best for preschoolers with baby questions. It keeps things simple while providing information meant for a little one to digest. In its simplicity it includes everyone. If you are a hetero two parent household, a single parent, if you used a donor or a surrogate, queen couple, trans/gender queer etc etc etc. this book includes your/your childβs situation. Canβt recommend this enough.

Title: just what I was looking for
Date: Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2022
Review: highly highly recommend; this one is great and strikes me (*personallyβ is so subjective and will obviously depend on your family and your kiddo-) as a perfect age-appropriate explanation for my five, soon to be six year old. It introduces various ways babies can be brought into the world; it presents a very artistically creative representation of DNA and how it can carry family legacies; and it doesnβt use any terms or tropes that box out any kind of family. Itβs just detailed enough, and also just vague enough. It does not show any adult intimate moments, but rather just explains the joining of the egg and the sperm in sort of a DNA dance. It was a very helpful teaching tool for our conversation.

Title: The perfect book for embryo adoption/donation
Date: Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2022
Review: Want to explain embryo donation/adoption to your kiddos without gendered/religious language, or getting too medically complicated? This is your book (and I have bought them all!!!) This book breaks conception down to sperm, eggs, and a uterus β meaning you can tailor it to fit your familyβs experience, no matter what it is, making your childβs story fit them. We found this book before we were meeting with our donors, and our kids now have a way to understand their beginnings that is simple and factual. Theyβre not confused. Theyβre not thinking about why (a God wanted this; parents wanted this; etc.) they just know who their donors are and who their family is. Perfect!
We are so grateful for this book. We spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to explain things, and this made it so simple and easy. Thank you.

Title: Educational and Inclusive
Date: Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2022
Review: My kid REALLY likes this book and I do to. It's very straight-to-the-point and doesn't use froo-froo words for everything.
There really are no pronouns, so it feels very inclusive for all kinds of family structures.

Title: Perfectly gender neutral and educational for all ages!!
Date: Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2018
Review: I got this book for my 2 year old. There is no mention of gender in this entire book. The book does not show genitals or sex in any way. It says "some bodies have sperm in them, and some do not." With a picture of a completely androgynous person, with a little picture of a sperm close to where the sperm would really be in their body. I recommend this book for every kid in the world and stress that there is no such thing as being too young for this book. Older kids may like it as well, it isnt cheesy and uses real words.
The only mention of genitals in this is the word "vagina" but it does not show one. It only talks about the fact that "some babies are born by coming out of a part of the body most people call the vagina" and it shows a picture of a midwife taking a baby out of the vagina in a birds eye view, so that we dont see the vagina. The opposite page shows a c section and explains that the doctor makes a hole, takes the baby out, and closes the hole. The picture is not scary and shows zero blood or gore, but is realistic and easy to see what is happening.
There is a picture of the baby upside down inside of a person's body with the umbilical cord. They show a picture of a uterus and explain that some bodies have uteruses and some do not, and that babies grow inside the uterus. There is a picture with lots of people, and some of those people have a uterus and some do not in the picture. Again I stress that there is no gender in this book which is fantastic.
The pictures are very colorful and fun, yet informative. The single only complaint I have is that it doesnt talk about the sperm going into the egg, but just the sperm dancing with the egg. After we read the words on that page I just always add "and then the sperm goes in the egg." I think thats all that's really needed.
This book started a really nice conversation between my little one and I and now if I ask, my two year old can tell me which parent had an egg, and which parent had a sperm to make my little one and who had a uterus where my little one grew and got bigger and bigger (the book shows pictures of the stages of development) and then came out and how.
This book also does not talk about "mommies and daddies" which is great since we have a Daddy and Shoey in our house, and no Mommy. I would recommend this book for families who adopted or had a surrogate, etc. It just talks about a sperm and an egg, but doesnt say anything about what kind of people "should" have a sperm or an egg or a uterus. There is no mention of male or female or intersex or man or woman, etc. It also shows a lot of different families, family members, and babies, but they are very diverse and a lot of them are very androgynous. I haven't looked too much but there may or may not be obviously gay couples, nonbinary couples, and families with 3 or more parents. Super duper inclusive.
I love this book. It is absolutely perfect for our family. Perfect for your queer kids and gaybies too. xD
