Northern Shades-Revised from Wardell Publications stained glass provides you with 25 full size lampshade designs, from 8 inch to 21 inch diameter shades. The styles range from small night stands, elaborate dining room swags, wall sconces with matching swag lamps, plus 3 of the popular inverted ceiling style shades. The majority are medium size shades, many of which are suitable for either swag or lamp base applications. With 25 versatile designs, this book offers every crafter and all studios a lampshade pattern for virtually an location.

Most of all, however, I appreciate the clear shopping list for each lamp; each one is rated for difficulty, has technical specifications (such as all measurements and the number of pieces), and a materials list. You can walk into the glass shop knowning that you need 3.25 sq ft of dark green opal, 1/2 sq ft of light green, and a 2.5" vase cap.

My only caveat -- and it's not really the author's fault -- is that you have to pay attention to the availability of supplies. The lamp I chose called for kite-shaped bevels in a size that is no longer available. I did just fine by cutting kites from textured glass, but I confess that I stamped my foot in frustration, a few times, before I chose that alternative.

Great book, though. Recommended.

Title: A book full of great instructions and patterns to follow

Review: This is a great book for beginners and experts alike. Very well illustrated with patterns and color pictures. well worth the money. Better than many Lamp Shade instruction books out there. Very easy and simple instructions to follow. They speak at your level (Easy to Understand) instead of speaking at an expert level understandable by very few. This book will not be a disappointment.

Review: I'll be honest and say that I haven't yet made any of the lampshades in this book. I got it with high-hopes of being creative, but never got the chance to make any of the really good patterns presented. That's not to discourage anyone from the book. It's well done and full of great ideas and it even grades the difficulty of the patterns.
