Title: well done and inspiring

Review: I picked up this book when wanting to learn about great men of the past who were part of the founding of our nation. Our first three presidents, Washington, Adams, and Jefferson, contributed to my life thinking, and each in his own sense was someone I looked up to: Washington for his equanimity and dedication to ruling his temper, Adams for his devotion to duty, and Jefferson for his recognition that staying somewhat up-to-date was part of maintaining a basic happiness (versus living in past “better days”). This book was an excellent read and inspiring. (Note: As I type this, I am dying of stage four cancer at age 49. I read this book numerous years ago and count it among some of the books I'm glad to have read read throughout my life. JD, 2021.)

Mr Beck introduced this book THE REAL GEORGE WASHINGTON on his show a couple months ago as well as a couple other history pieces of our founding fathers.
It sounded like a good summer read and am finding it to be a very good summer read. In these times of "Change" we need to know what we are changing from and
changing to. While what we are changing to is open to debate, this is a good
start to where we came from.

The book itself is well written, easy to read, well researched and documented,
with ledgable print and good illustrations. I have found no political leanings,
right or left. Just a clear concise portrait of the man and his times and in doing so a true picture of where we came from.

The books layout is the usual table of contents, Preface, Acknowledgements, followed by 613 pages of narrative and illastration, then 2 appendix - Personal views of Washington Thomas Jefferson and John Bernard. from there on is
part II - Timeless treasures of George Washington. then Notes and selected Bibliograph. The Real Thomas Jefferson and the Real Benjamin Franklin are laid
out in a symalar fashion and can easily be used as a reference guide as well as
a good read.

Title: Great book but not just about Washington

Review: I finally got around to reading this very large and thick book. Excellent book. Gives a fantastic perspective and and history of the indispensable man. But now i know why the book is so thick. It has a lot of history on the war. Some of it has nothing to do with Washington in particular. Very descriptive accounts of major battles which is all very interesting and I loved it ... but it had little to do with Washington other than he was commander at the time. It also has a lot of Washington during the war and things he did do and was present at, but there is a lot about other battles at which he was not present.

So it could have been shorter if they had talked only about Washington and his accomplishments alone, but still I love history and I found even those parts that were not directly about him to be great and insightful. All in all a great history book and biography of the greatest president or, for that matter, leader. If you want to know all about Washington and a lot about the Revolutionary War, this is the book for you.

Review: I purchased this book after reading Mccullough's outstanding 1776. I went on a trip to D.C. and visited Mt. Vernon while there and had to read and learn more about the life of George Washington. This book as many know is highly recommended by Glenn Beck, and so I thought I'd give it a try.

My expectation was a blandish, dry read, but rich in facts. It was in fact much more than that. The book read more like a novel to me. Admittedly, this could be due to my intense interest in the subject, but if you're reading this review, you are most likely at least a bit interested in the life of General Washington.

For those interested, the book starts at the beginning. The young life of Washington is given an appropriate treatment, but the bulk of the work is dedicated to the years of the Revolutionary War. This of course does not disappoint, because despite all of the interesting things the man did in his life, the war was his real shining moment. Much of the work transitions in and out of his words, either from his journals, correspondence, or words overheard by third parties. This format works extremely well, and kept my attention easily throughout.

For the price, I doubt there's another book as thorough and entertaining. Highly recommended!

Review: This is an awesome book! If you have heard about it by listening to/watching Glenn Beck, and wish to purchase it for your own library, please do so! Now!!!
Buy it and read it for yourselves, and understand what our founding fathers went through to bring our republic into being. You'll understand just how precarious our position really was from the mid 1770s until well into the Washington administration.
Do not let the book's thickness deter you. The main text is 614 pages, but it reads quickly, and is written so that the average person can understand it. The rest of the book contains quotes attributed to Pres. Washington as well as an extensive bibliography (itself, about 120 pages).
People on the left have derided the book for one or more reasons, and you can read their reviews and respond to them if you wish. I find their arguments against the book, however, quite lacking in substance after having read it. In fact, the wordier the derision, the more lacking the argument. Just my opinion, though.
As to my own feelings/thoughts about the book: like I said at the outset of my review, this is an awesome book! You will not be disappointed, unless you are one of those people whose life's mission is to find fault with everything.
