Review: I said what I said.

I had low expectations after skimming through reviews, and I honestly don’t even know why because seriously? Did we read the same book? Obviously not. Apparently I’m either too stupid to pick up on whatever they’re picking up on, or I just need to go ahead and start the petition for some sort of training course for reviewing art in any form.

How is there too much detail? Like, half the reason I love these authors together is for the fact that they make the movie that plays in my head every time I read a book so much more alive and vivid. They dig into every aspect of the world they build, fully and completely flesh out the characters they create, and they have this wonderful ability to make it all feel real and tangible. Like, just maybe, this town and these people are out there thriving in reality.

I also wholeheartedly disagree that this book is too long. I think y’all have all just gone and gotten used to the new standard of literature out here these days. Imagine a little old human standing outside, waving a cane around, yelling about getting off their lawn. That’s me. I’m old, I’m tired, I’m set in my ways, and y’all seem to have brought about a new definition for what constitutes a book/novel. Half of what I read these days is a dang novella at best, and desperately needs MORE. It’s a common wish in my reviews, actually. I literally only want MORE from these authors when it’s the ending of a series, and that’s only because I’ve become so invested that I can’t live without the characters. Like, I want to deep dive into their HEAs and see their lives. I’d read ANYTHING given to me to stay connected with them.

There are always editing issues in ebooks, which is something I’ve had to resign myself to expecting. But! Thankfully! There are very few in this book. So few, in fact, that I don’t feel a need to knock a star off or complain. Excellent for my brain, excellent for this book, and always a good time in my opinion.

I cannot WAIT to keep reading about these characters. I see so many relationships that are coming and I am here for ALL OF THEM. Except for Brantleigh, who I think needs to be denied any HEA after being so gross for the entire book. Ew. We do not stan. I love JT and Flynn, and I’m here for anything I can get my hands on that keeps the magic going. Throwing a nod to Brooks and Mal just DID IT for me, too! Licking Thicket can come back ANY TIME and I will welcome it with open arms. The next book in this new series cannot come soon enough and I am waiting as patiently as I can.

All in all, this was a fantastic start to a new series. The detail was rich and explicit, giving the entire world they’re building depth and understanding from the get-go. I can see the town and the people so clearly in my head. I get their vibes perfectly, and I don’t have to guess or wonder at anything because it’s all there, neatly described and cataloged for me to see. Honeybridge has been lovingly crafted to be the perfect small town, and the inhabitants enhance every aspect. This is another smash hit from this duo, and you’d be losing out if you miss picking this one up.

Review: A new Lucy Lennox and May Archer collaboration? You know I’m here for it! This first Honeybridge story is everything you’ve come to expect from these two - small town craziness, adorable characters and some laugh out loud moments.

JT Wellbridge (aka Frog) is a hotshot executive at a beverage distribution company, chasing down big new clients and bringing in great deals for the company thanks to his personality and business knowledge. He hasn’t been home to Honeybridge in 3 years, focused on his job and also avoiding his rival/enemy/love interest, Flynn Honeycutt. JT is observant, caring, empathetic and always trying to make sure people are seen, taken care of and recognized for their success. His family is wealthy and successful but he’s made his own success and a name for himself in business and around town.

Flynn Honeycutt (aka Firecracker) owns the Honeybridge Tavern and is a mead maker, selling his varietals at the tavern and hoping to expand his operations and reach soon. He’s successful and gets to do something he loves every day but is also stretched thin, having to keep the business going, continue to refine his mead-making operation and take care of the rest of the Honeycutts. Flynn is prickly and quick to get defensive, especially when it comes to his family, but he cares so much and has a huge heart under that guarded exterior.

These two are the kings of miscommunication; if that’s something that bothers you, this book may not be for you. They’ve spent years circling each other, drawn to each other but never quite making the right move to make something happen. But fate seems to allow them time to figure things out this time, though not without more misunderstandings. Even though their families have been at odds with each other for years, JT and Flynn can’t seem to stay away. Even when things go bad, they still know the other will be there for them, trying to make old (and new) wrongs right.

I do think that this story was too long - as much as I enjoy the small town shenanigans in all of Lucy and May’s stories, I think there was too much of it in this one. It took away from JT and Flynn’s story and made some sections drag on.

Really looking forward to Mr. Important - I love me a good age gap story and am excited for more Honeybridge craziness.

Review: I don’t know why I always seem to let it slip from the forefront of my brain how much I love Lucy Lennox’s writing and May Archer’s writing, and especially the pairing of Lucy and May’s talents. And then I pick up a book like Firecracker and I am reminded all over again and feel like I have to do the V8 headsmack!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and other than needing to catch a few hours sleep could not put it down. It’s funny, heartwarming, emotional, sweet, and even anger inducing…all the emotional food groups in one meal! I loved Flynn and JT and couldn’t wait to see how they’d make their way to their HEA. (Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes!) It wasn’t hard to predict the trajectory of the story but it was a delight to read how we got there. I really enjoyed all the secondary characters and can just imagine where future stories are going to come from.

The story arc moves well and the character development is nicely paced. There are a couple editing errors that someone should have picked up that caused me to go back and re-read to figure out what was confusing me but nothing that drastically took my head out of the story which is a cardinal sin for me.

I highly recommend this book and look forward to future books in the series. And now I have to go back and figure out which books I’ve missed from these authors in my recent bout of amnesia!
