Review: I have recently read some on the negative reviews on the other books in this series and just don't understand. I love the Shadow Walkers. There are a few inconsistencies throughout the series- for example when we are introduced to Nicoletta in the first book, SHADOW RIDER, she attempts to kill herself with a knife. In this book, the story of Nicoletta's romance with Taviano, the youngest surviving Ferraro brother, the story is recounted as her trying to kill herself with a gun. It's a small discrepancy, but noticable to a fan.I love that, while there is a similar flow to each of the books, the personality of the characters was allowed to evolve. There was an "instalove" aspect that I always enjoy- but because of the personality and background of the characters, I always finish the book believing in a happily ever after.I have been waiting for Nicoletta and Taviano's story since book one and feel like it was worth the wait. Nicoletta starts off as the wild child, a rebel running away from the abuse of her childhood. Taviano is initially seen as just the youngest Ferraro brother, the peace maker. Yet they mesh in a way that works.I loved this book. I enjoyed the partnership that evolved between the two main characters. I was happy that the danger threatening Nicoletta was resolved. The crazy, erratic behavior of Eloisa Ferraro toward her children is somewhat explained. So many loose ends tied up! (Note to Christine- please find a way to save Sandlin- he is too great a character to kill off)Final words- if you have not read this series, I HIGHLY recommend this book (but please read the series in order for maximum enjoyment!) The Ferraro men are NOT always politically correct but they are protective, loyal, loving, intelligent and passionate. Sigh. I want one...

Review: It’s not the worst I have read from Feehan, but not the best, either.The pros: I really enjoyed Taviano’s gentleness. I was so over all the bdsm junk in this series that I didn’t even read the last two in the series. It was a joy to read about a kind man who didn’t need to coerce, hurt or dominate.Pro: : development of the Eloisa situationThe cons: if you have read anything this author has written in the last five years, you know she suffers from a serious case of repeatmyselfitis. Within this book, she used repetitive phrases constantly. The “war” or assassination scenes were also beyond tedious. She killed off like 100 gang members...every one pretty much exactly the same way. A rider sneaks up behind and breaks his neck. Over and over. And she actually describes each boring, repetitive kill.Con: Ridiculous, gratuitous sex. The sex scenes between the two main characters were fine. They made sense in the context of the plot. But I guess since Nicoletta had to recover from her abuse so they couldn’t have as many scenes, Feehan felt the need to throw in a pretty distracting and frankly revolting scene with Ricco and Mariko immediately after they killed a bunch of people with their bare hands. All I could think was “GAG! You are sticking your fingers in her mouth (and other places) when you JUST had them on fifteen gang members nasty heads!” ???? The scene was clearly nothing but filler. It did nothing for the plot whatsoever. And it was cringe inducing. It was almost like she felt she had to meet a sex scene quota so just threw that unsexy sex scene in for page count.Con: dialogue is very stilted. Nobody, absolutely NOBODY speaks the way these characters do.Con: too much rambling. The author forgets what she has said from one scene to the next. Example- in one chapter, she says that despite using him as a punching bag, Nicoletta never told Taviano to leave during her recovery. In another chapter, she comments about Nicoletta trying to make him go away. There are several examples of similar situationsCon: pretty dry delivery. This book covers some pretty deep and traumatic subjects. One time, I read a book where the girl’s dad didn’t show up for her eighth grade graduation and I sobbed like a baby...This book? Covers sexual abuse of a child/children, gangbangers, the death of parents, the rejection by parents...and I didn’t shed a single tear or really feel much of anything . The delivery was dryer and more clinical (by far) than even a news report. It was weirdly disassociated from the characters-all “tell” that she had struggles but no really showing her actual pain. That is kind of a big deal since the entire book focuses heavily on her recovering from her past.Overall, I don’t regret that I bought it, but I REALLY need to start reminding myself to stop wasting money on these books.

Review: I wasn't sure what I expected with Nicoletta and Taviano's book. From previous books, I knew Taviano had claimed her. I wasn't sure if she was ready for a Ferraro to claim her. Her life had been so hard since her parents died and she'd acted out since the Ferraro family had rescued her. But I underestimated Taviano. Don't ever underestimate a Ferraro. What was I thinking?While this is book 5 of a series, I believe it would stand alone. The author does a great job of keeping everyone up to speed on what's going on. This book also has little tidbits about the couples we've seen before. It also features some of the other cousins. We learn more about those in New York and LA. I'm excited to see more books for those Ferraros.The writing continues to be excellent. I love how the tale twists and turns in unexpected ways. I never would have guessed where this flight was taking the story. It changed everything. I also admired the task of dealing with the pain in the past for both of these characters. The authors note at the beginning gives a glimpse of the struggle the author had but she did an amazing job. Well done.I have enjoyed every one of the books in this series. But this one has become my favorite. It might have something to do with Taviano's care of Nicoletta. His willingness to share and open up to her. His training history is as ugly as was another brothers. But he didn't issue orders at Nicoletta as Stephano might have done. No, he did something I never thought I'd see any Ferraro brother do. No I can't tell you but the point is, he put Nicoletta first. I loved that.Both of these characters are strong and care for each other. They don't have a clue how much the other feels for them. It's adorable, really. But I so enjoyed them discovering the truth. And I was so impressed with Nicoletta. She stood up to Eloisa. I don't mean just ignoring her and letting that women's venom roll off her, I mean she laid her flat on more than one occasion. Go Nicoletta! You rock, girl.I continue to adore this world. Shadow riders delivering justice when the law can't touch them. Powerful alpha men that protect and love hard. Strong women that fight many battles, though differently than the men, but are just as amazing as their men. It's a brilliant world that I enjoy visiting often.If you haven't read this series, get started. It's a great escape.
