Review: I bought several books for my Sgt assessment center a few years ago, and they had good information.For a Lt assessment center, I wanted a different kind of book, one that seemed better suited to the AC process, and at a higher level.I bought this book, and initially thought it wasn't very applicable, but I saw things that I liked, and plugged away, and resisted the urge to flip to the sections in the back for the "meat". I read the book all the way through, as recommended, and then read it again.The more I read, the more I realized how applicable the book is.This book doesn't give you answers, you'll have to do the work for that. BTW, you can't cram for a AC. You have to work to build the knowledge, skills, and abilities and takes time. So get good at your job and know your policies, that's very important.This book helps learn how to demonstrate to the assessors those KSA's that the assessors can use to evaluate you.Are you one of those folks who is damn good at your job, but do poorly on a AC? You need to learn how to communicate the good job that you do, by demonstrating the KSA's to the assessors. This book teaches you how to do that. But you have to do the work to get that result. This book shows you the way, you have to do the work.Additionally, Ms. Rowe goes over quite a few things that can make you better at the job you already have, not just the one you are testing for. I learned many things that I can use in my job every day, and away from the job, too.In closing, I recommend this book highly.I came in #1 in my AC, btw.Thank you, Ms. Rowe. I learned so much more than I thought I would.

Review: I have used this for two assessment tests and it improved my score, I moved from scores in the teens to the top 5 after utilizing the knowledge that is shared in this book. If you buy this book start reading it well before the testing begins as it will help you understand the process, scenarios, KSA’s and key words assessors are looking for. It is well written and extremely valuable if there are no assessment training centers in your area. Highly recommended for any LEOs that use assessment centers for their testing.

Review: I was very pleasantly surprised by this book. I am preparing for an upcoming assessment and since it is to be my first experience being assessed I felt like I needed some help. Initially I was concerned about spending $42 on a fairly lengthy book. I wasn't sure if it would help and I didn't know if I would have the time to read it all. However, what I found in Ms. Rowe's book was a very well written, easy to read and well organized manual. What you will not find are a lot of specific questions that one may be asked with their corresponding answers (Ms. Rowe explains very well why she does not include this type of help); regardless, I absolutely feel MUCH more prepared for my assessment. In addition, I plan on using this book throughout my career because not only does it have excellent assessment preparation suggestions, but it can easily serve as a "how to be an effective supervisor" book. Even the format of the book, i.e., spiral bound (to lay flat), large margins (for taking notes) and blank note taking space at the end of each chapter, was well thought out. I highly recommend this book.

Review: This book was recommended to me by my Sgt, who scored #3 on his assessment. And it was recommended to him by a Sgt who scored #1 on her assessment. A Deputy Chief read the book when he first tested for Sgt and now he’s continued promoting. I read it and, am happy to say, I received my assessment results today and came out #1. Trust me, IT WORKS! BUT, you have to do what it says and really study. You have to give the assessment everything you’ve got, and this book shows you how. It’s a very easy read, but you have to listen to what she says to do and how to treat the book. Tina mentions to mark it up, highlight it, fold pages, and think of her as being right there next to you, helping you, while you’re reading. Tina says if you do that, and really make it your own, you won’t want to lend it to anyone. I did that, and now I won’t ever think about loaning it out. Because I set it up for me, which it completely allows. Also, another candidate read the same book. I never told him I had it, or how I had set mine up, I just kept it a secret. LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS! Anyways, he just read it and didn’t use it as Tina encourages, and passed, but didn’t score NEARLY as well as I did. I’m a very SLOW reader, and I finished it in 9 days. This will be the best $46.00 you’ll spend in your career. I’m now keeping it for when I decide to rest for Lt. in 4-5 years. BUY IT!!!!!

Review: If you are participating in an assessment center you need to read this book at least twice. This book gives you a foundation and understanding of what to expect and how to prepare. It’s not about giving you examples of what to say but on what to do. Finished 1st with a 96 out of 100 on my assessment score and I attribute this to Tina Rowe’s book. Don’t wait until the last minute. Get this book and start reading it. Take notes and discuss it with family or friends. I have recommended this book to other friends and they too have promoted and attribute their success to this book.

Review: Out of several resources I used, this was the best for me. I wish I had gotten the book sooner and spent more time practicing the skills the author addresses. Ideally a year in advance but I got it two weeks before my assessment, so somewhere between two weeks and a year ago s the sweet spot.I did well in my assessment, but I could have done better if I had more time to focus on, and hone, the skills discussed in this book, and ingrain the organization methods she give to structure thoughts and responses. For a subject that is hard to coach through written word, I think the author did a great job.
