Title: A heartwarming and heartwrenching love story

Review: Side Trip by Kerry Lonsdale was a 5-star read for me! A book rarely makes me cry, but I was so emotionally invested in Joy and Dylan's story that tears ran down my cheeks as I read the final chapters.

Joy is driving across the country on historic Route 66 with a bucket list to complete that is not her own. Her final destination is New York where her fiancé waits. Dylan is a singer-songwriter who has gigs booked across the country on his way to catch a flight from New York to London to embark on a new life. Joy and Dylan meet at a roadside diner and wind up as traveling companions. As they get closer to the end of the trip, they unexpectedly fall in love.

Determined to honor her commitment to her fiancé, Joy parts ways with Dylan at JFK airport. The next ten years are filled with regrets and "what-ifs". As I rooted for them to find their way back to each other, the story took an unexpected turn, leaving me in shock and tears.

I received an advance copy of Side Trip from the author and publisher in exchange for an honest review. My review is not influenced by having received the ARC. In fact, I have purchased a copy of the book through Amazon upon its release.

Review: The story idea was cute. I was excited to read it but the language was absolutely awful! It was unnecessary and completely ruined the book. I was always taught that if all you could come up with was a swear word to describe something then you needed to improve your vocabulary. I threw the book away. If I could give it a negative score I would!

Review: Wow! This is an amazing book. My emotions were all over the place and that is a fantastic thing to say about a story. When the reader becomes so involved in caring about the characters, the situations happening, and the ultimate outcome, that shows the great skills of the author.

Joy at age 13 made a bad decision. That decision then was made worse by decisions others made. She did the best she could at that young age, but now as an adult, she carries the guilt of what happened inside her, not wanting to express her feelings or truly feel free to live her life.

The guilt is eating Joy’s spirit away and she cannot see a way to be rid of it. In an attempt to relieve some pain, she takes a road trip on Route 66. This was a life goal of her sister Judy and she had a list of things to do on the trip. The fact that Judy is not around anymore and cannot take the trip herself is part of Joy’s guilt.

Joy meets Dylan near the beginning of her journey on Route 66 and he also is carrying burdens with him. They agree to travel together in Joy’s convertible Bug. Their relationship begins as driving companions, to temporary friends, to much more over the ten days of the journey. They become a salve to each other, to heal the wounds of the past.

The details of the journey on Route 66 were so interesting to experience. I never have taken the trip, but now, I feel like I did. There is a strong theme of music being felt deeply in the soul and what a musician’s life is like in this story. That was so informative and enjoyable to me, since I love music.

I believe the core of the story is about self-forgiveness and living “your” best life. I think that might be the bravest thing to do. To live the life you want and to be strong enough to achieve the goals you desire.

I highly recommend this book!

I am a huge fan of this author’s work and I think this is a wonderful addition to her collection. I want to thank Kerry Lonsdale and NetGalley for giving me the immense pleasure of being an advance reader. My review is my own opinion not influenced by receiving the ARC. Review: This story will stay with you along time! Joy Evers sets out on a cross-country road trip with her deceased sisters bucket list. Along the way she meets singer-songwriter Dylan. His car broke down so she agrees to take him to New York if he buys the gas. They agree that what happens on the road stays on the road. They both fall in love but Joy is engaged and Dylan has issues. When they part they agree to meet back at the diner in 10 years. What if? What if he had told her he loved her? You must take a SideTrip to meet Joy and Dylan! Great story!

Review: Wow! Kerry Lonsdale, Author of “Side Trip” takes us on an emotional, memorable, intriguing journey of life, decisions, and love. The Genres for this story are Contemporary Fiction, Romance, Women’s Fiction, and Fiction. The timeline for this story takes place over a decade. The author describes her dramatic characters as complex and complicated.

Joy Evers is on a road trip to live out her deceased sister’s bucket list, and to meet up with her fiance Mark to start a new life. Joy is at a diner when she meets Dylan Westfield when his car breaks down. Both seem to have different and opposite personalities. Joy does offer Dylan, who is a musician a ride, with certain conditions. One condition is that if they have to take a “side trip” they must agree.

I read this in one sitting and felt like this was a journey into self-growth and the ups and downs of life. Both Joy and Dylan have secrets and have emotional baggage. I would highly recommend this thought-provoking novel that questions so many things about life.

Review: When I saw this come across my suggested booked, it spoke to me. It did not disappoint!
I connected so deeply with these characters, like it could be a parallel flipside universe of my own life. I flew through, I laughed and cried, and even yelled near the end. I could not put it down, I literally watched a fantastic movie in my head as I read this. I stayed up till 3am finishing this.
It is the BEST BOOK I have read in a long time and now feel sad my next book won't be able to compete;)
This book will stay with me a long time.
This author now has a new fan and honestly do yourself a favor, fall in love and read this!
