Review: I came to know about the author Harry Sit from his Website which has the theme, " Like a Friend Telling You About Money".

His book "My Financial Toolbox" has the same theme-- a trusted friend/relative/well wisher looking after your financial interests.

It is full of practical advice and, at such a low price, is a "must" buy. The quote below from the book should give an idea of the quality of the advice it contains:

"When you save for retirement in a retirement plan, IRA, or a 529 plan, you need to invest the money for long-term growth. Investing is important, but it’s not as important as contributing the money to invest in the first place. The financial industry and the press make investing appear very complicated. It’s not."

I have already sent this book to several friends. (I am elderly and they have been helping me in a variety of ways during the last few years.)

Title: Jewels of succinct advise

Review: Harry Sit is one of my favorite financial bloggers and has helped me many times.

His book summarizes a lifetime of experience in his uniquely articulate and succinct style.

For example, his summary on Medicare options is only 2 1/2 pages, but tells you nearly all you need to know. It is surprising how companies offering exactly the same plans proscribed by Medicare administration can make things seem so confusing, when there're really not.

I hope that he will update the book, as financial and government institutions continue to make our financial decisions fraught with a myriad of options and traps.

Save yourself some time and take advantage of Harry's roadmap - he tells it like it is.

Title: Clear, sound, unambiguous advice

Review: Despite its brevity, this book manages to cover a wide range of topics, offering useful advice on personal finance grounded in the author's experience and research. Sit doesn't get bogged down in complexity, statistics, or nuance; he has a knack for getting to the point and for covering what's essential.

Though the book focuses on basics, it’s also a worthwhile review for someone already adept at managing finances. Sit addresses topics that others often ignore, e.g., banking and spending, including how to manage cash and credit cards. The brief section on life insurance is the best quick introduction to the topic I've ever read. I'm passing it along to a family member who's shopping for a policy.

Other highlights include a chapter that sorts out the complexities of health insurance and chapters on workplace and individual retirement accounts. Sit also give excellent advice for low-cost, buy-and-hold investing and for hiring (or not hiring) a financial adviser.

For anyone who's never read a book on personal finance, this would be a great place to start. For someone who’s read many such books, Sit provides an excellent refresher course.

Review: The author shared the best of his knowledge and tricks on how to manage his money. It is comprehensive and honest. It is a complete financial guide for young people to start working and making money. I recommended the book to friends kids who just graduated from college. Even for older people like me, I still learned several things, like the credit freeze, cash management account, life insurance goal, etc. I like the guiding principles: "good enough" and "set and forget" since we all have too many things to do. Review: I've been a subscriber of Harry's newsletters for a few years. The book is just like his blogs, well researched and full of practical and actionable advice. What I like the most is the governing principles he uses to guide his financial decisions: good enough and set and forget. Quite enlightening.

I wish I had such a book when I started my financial journey years ago. I bought another copy to gift to my nephew who is fairly new in his journey.

Review: I have always been intimidated by money management books since I felt like I did not know enough basics and often get lost in complex terms and finance jargons. This book was easy to read. Each chapter focuses on topics that is very relevant to me written in simple, straight forward manner. My finance has gotten more complex over the years and this has provided me with such great insights and knowledge that I feel more empowered to handle the complexities of my finances to make purposeful decisions. I love the action items at the end of each chapters emphasizing the bottom line. Thank you Harry for writing this book and sharing your knowledge.

Title: Not a great book - skip this and read White Coat Investor's book

Review: I wound up skimming this - the material is covered too lightly, and in some cases is vague. There are other, better books in the "concise" range and this is a pretty easy "next" to me. Maybe someone with NO knowledge of finances would find it useful, but I think you'd be better off read White Coat Investor's intro to finances book as it's more coherent and has better, clearer examples.
