Title: a MUST have for TBI sufferers, or those have an interest in the working of the brain, or health and well-being in general

Review: Although the author has an impressive background in the areas that you might expect for this sort of book, Dan approaches TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) treatment from many different angles. Those treatments that your "regular" doctor might not want to utilize for various reasons, or simply may not be aware of. I won't go into them all here as it's easier for you to just use the Amazon "Look Inside" option to see the table of contents, but suffice to say, you will be surprised at the breadth and depth of the treatments covered within. I was actually very surprised at a few of the available options open to TBI sufferers!

The great thing about "The Concussion repair Manual?" Not only can it help those who have been unfortunate enough to have suffered traumatic brain injury, it can also serve as a handbook for those looking to "hack" their own brain for better mental clarity and performance, which of course goes hand in hand with the enhancement of physical ability. Also, the negative sides of treatment are not ignored. It is essential to have a heads up on what the side effects can be, especially when treatments are combined with existing prescription drugs you might be taking.

The presentation of the subject matter could easily have become a boring slog-fest, but it was actually a pleasure to read. I felt I was learning something new with each turn of the page. Written clearly and intelligently, but with the layman in mind as you might hope. For me, this book is the most interesting read on the brain, how it works, how to get the most out of this fascinating piece of hardware, and finally, what to do when things go wrong, since Norman Doidge gave us "The Brain That Changes Itself."

"The Concussion repair Manual" is a MUST have for those who have sustained a TBI (and their families,) and highly recommended for anybody who has even a passing interest in the working of the brain, or health and well-being in general.

Title: Refusing to Allow a TBI to Control My Life

Review: I struggled for three years with the neurologists and other specialists who were convinced my TBI prevented me from ever living a normal life. They tried to convince me I could never work again, and it was time to sign up for disability benefits. As I began to read Dr. Engle’s book, I finally understood why all those brilliant physicians in the early 1980’s were convinced they needed to prescribe meds to hide my symptoms rather than listen to me and attempt to unravel the underlying and seemingly unrelated symptoms I struggled with after a truck crossed the center line and hit my car head-on.

Like Dr. Engle, I sought out specialists in chiropractic, naturopaths, homeopaths, biofeedback, acupuncture, and modality to try to put Humpty-Dumpty back together again. What I have learned through experience and through reading this manual is that each of us is unique. This is a struggle you will face for years to come. I understand my TBI can raise its ugly head when I’m stressed or over-tired. Only recently, I discovered I can type words perfectly backward, just like my words come out backward when I’m stressed. (Under normal conditions, I couldn’t do that if I tried.)
As someone who suffered for more years than was necessary, I highly recommend this book. Learn to adapt what works and pass over those things that don’t. As a TBI patient, you are now Sherlock Holmes in your discovery of the best path to regain the life you enjoyed before the injury. Is it easy? No! Is it worth it? Absolutely! This is your life, and you definitely have the power to improve it each and every day. Dr. Engle provides the roadmap to a better life.

The practitioner supported therapies in the book provide a selection of possibilities to help you mitigate your pain and improve your life. My success in recovery came from doing the research and applying those strategies that worked best in my situation. Dr. Engle helps you navigate through the difficulties following a TBI.

Review: A manual is that instruction booklet you get with your IKEA order, or new desk you just bought that shows you a step-by-step guide on how to complete the project successfully. Suffering from a TBI I was desperate for good, quality, timely advice to help with my recovery. With my brain having only so much bandwidth and usability per day until it got foggy, ached and ultimately useless until I slept, I could only absorb so much information in a day. Unlike other injuries where you can spend HOURS a day researching about treatment, recovery, steps, best practices… brain injuries, well, your brain is compromised and can only do so much to navigate its own recovery. I put my trust in this book. What a mistake. This is NOT a “manual”, this is basically a couple hundred pages of information dumps from stuff you can basically find doing Google searches. There’s no step by step guide, hell, there’s not even a slightest attempt at coming up with some basic programs, sequences, or “how to handle this” or “how to handle that”. It’s literally just a useless information dump. Dr. Dan Engle, as you are well aware, TBIs are very serious injuries and every second, minute, hour and day counts in a recovery. You’re considerably wasting people’s time with this useless book with nothing more than a fancy cover and snappy title, but you’re harming people with it. I’m not even a doctor and I could chart a more helpful, solution-based “manual” than your book attempts to do. Do not buy. Your health is extremely vital. Anything but this.
