Title: Excellent guide book but nothing new since 2013.

Review: Excellent book, especially if it’s your first or second time to Ireland. (Easy to read, amazing routes, great pics and travel advice.) But not so much if you’ve been several times and looking for new roads to explore. This is the same exact book from 2018, and I venture to say, 2013. I was really expecting, hoping for something new and exciting. I love the idea of “backroads” but I find it hard to believe there were no new routes or new adventures to add to the book. So, if you have a 2013 copy or even a 2018 copy of this book, don’t bother getting this one. It’s a waste of money. Other than that, this is the best guide book out there and I’d highly recommend it.

Title: Great book for planning a trip with driving in the country

Review: Excellent for planning. I drove in Ireland for 10 days in June 2019. Loved driving the back roads and main roads like N71 through southwest Co Cork. GPS is essential for driving through some areas like villages and areas where there are roundabouts, confusing junctions between country road and major highway, and for getting off the extremely narrow streets of a village to get out of town and onto a major road (albeit narrow) to go to another town. I had little to no time while driving to stop and look at a map. There are very few places to safely pull over to look at maps. I didn't always use or need GPS on the roads that became more familiar but certainly back roads...the signage is scant on the peninsulas although there's little chance of getting too lost. The book was very helpful to educate me prior to my trip about monuments, off the beaten path places to consider driving to. One thing I learned driving in Ireland is that it might seem like a short distance but the roads are so windy and curvy, it takes longer to get to a place; can't go on mileage distance to estimate driving time. I usually anticipated an extra 10-20 minutes especially if I got stuck behind a big tractor.

Title: Best travel book if you plan to explore Ireland by car

Review: This is by far the best travel book I have ever purchased. If you’re just flying to Dublin and taking some bus tours or something then this book is not for you. But the best way to see Ireland is to rent a car and actually see the country. I was worried about driving on the left side but that was completely not an issue. This book breaks out each section of the country and what there is to see and do in each section. Great pictures, great map included and tons of useful information to help plan your trip. My only problem was there is too much to see in only the one week that I was there.

Review: I almost didn't buy this book because I had purchased other Ireland travel books, but I am so thankful I did. The Back Roads of Ireland became our bible for our self-guided driving tour through Ireland. The book gave so much information on the Irish counties and things to see in each, and was used as a constant reference tool as we drove. I highly recommend for people driving their vacation through Ireland. Each county is well illustrated and the town by town listing was so very helpful. We drove 2,074 kilometers (1,288 miles) in less than 7 days. Without this book I am unsure we could have accomplished so much.

Review: I bought this book before my honeymoon in Ireland. My husband and I were only there a week so we wanted to make the most of it. This book really helped us. We were able to find fun things to do each day and it gives helpful information about Ireland. The driving tips were really useful. I’d definitely recommend this book to anyone going to Ireland and renting a car there.

Review: Some might consider that this version is out of date, but it was absolutely perfect for our 2-week driving tour of Ireland. Afterall, not much changes over the years when you are admiring gorgeous scenery, castles, villages, etc. The guide was a great way to strike off the beaten path!
