Review: Great books, conveniently packaged together. I was a fan of Dr. James Dobson's books when raising my own children, 20 years ago. When a friend of mine was sharing some family struggles, I wanted to share what had helped me. Review: There are some great techniques in this novel. Not every suggestion will be appropriate for the individual needs of your little one, but you can pick and choose what's best for your family and apply it. More info never hurts when it comes to dealing with your little one's emotional, mental, and physical welfare. This is certainly a great reference guide.

Review: My Granddaughter called me one day in absolute exasperation over her "fiesty" 2 year old. Her behaviour was out of control. I ordered the Dobson collection & had it shipped directly to her house. My granddaughter was thrilled with the immediate advice she could use. The long term lessons were wonderful. Things quickly turned around for this young family. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I often hear people comment on what a wonderful mother my granddaughter is & how well behaved her little one is. : )

Review: This is an awesome book, and I told my wife I may purchase extra copies to hand out to harried parents that I see when we go to restaurants or just around town. Children need boundaries, and parents need to be consistent. Dr. Dobson offers a lot of practical advice for how to make life pleasant and enjoyable both for the child and the parents. I'm not sure why so many parents are afraid of discipline. Frankly, I look at their lives and wonder how they aren't completely miserable with the way their kids don't obey when they are given instructions on their behavior. Our daughter is well-loved, and she knows it. She also obeys us, and we enjoy being with her.

Review: It is so wonderful to get a hold of this trio of Dr. James Dobson's books regarding child rearing. My daughter is getting married soon, and she and her husband-to-be want to start having their family right away. Because of the delay due to her work career and the proximity to the upper end of her child-bearing years, she wants to dive right in, but she has neither been around babies and small children over the years, nor has she done any reading or preparing for the great adventure. This group of books will be a wonderful read right off as well as a wonderful reference over the years. You cannot go wrong following the guidance of this godly man.

Review: This book truly came in handy for me. I am a newly saved single mom of 2 difficult acting strong willed children, and I love how this book gives Scriptures to back up the suggestions given. We had a good Bible study one evening and I was able to implement a passage from the second book "The New Strong-Willed Child" into the lesson. Ever since I got this book, I have been highlighting and have been able to see things from a different perspective. I am almost done with "The New Strong-Willed Child", then I will get to the other two remaining books. Thank you Dr. James Dobson for this wonderful resource, which is helpful for single parent and two-parent households alike.

Title: Skip all the fluff and save your money

Review: I mostly agree with this book (although the comparison to dog-training was quite annoying. Are there really not enough examples of child-training that he has to resort to analogies with his dog?). However, most of the pages are taken up with stories and examples with very little actual tips or advice. Particularly annoying was the question-and-answer parts- when a parent asked a question, instead of just answering it, he often restated the question and went into long explanations of the question, as if he was talking to an audience who had no idea what children do. Of course, his audience is mostly parents and grandparents who already understand the questions all too well! His answers were often very short and non-specific (read "more theory than practice" and "non-helpful").

At one point reading this book, I pulled out a highlighter to find important points again. I felt strange because I feel like using highlighters mean the book must be really good, yet the book was getting on my nerves at the same time. Then I realized I was just trying to find the actual important content after weeding through all the wordy unhelpful stuff.

Also, if you buy this edition which includes three books in one, many of the books have the same content word-for-word.

In short, not a bad book or bad advice, but just too many pages of fluff to be worth the money. He probably could have written one pamphlet instead of three books.

A book that was given to me which is much skinnier but has much more actual helpful content is "Child Training Tips" by Reb Bradley. Much, much more helpful and not so long-winded.
