Review: I love the plot and the prompt, but there was too much one point narration for my taste. If you like that kind of thing, this is a good story. Sadly I didn’t get too much of the old romantic interaction between the hero and the villain. It was funny and enjoyable at the end... but I would also make a drinking contests for all the redundancy in the story. I could get drunk after four pages for every time Night terror says thank you very much and yours truly.Once again, great plot... but narration wise, it needs some polishing.

Review: Parts of the story were interesting enough that I felt somewhat compelled to finish the book, while a lot of it was just Night Terror's inner monologs that seemed to go on forever because she kept going off on tangents. I can kind of forgive this based solely on the idea that she's a villian, but other than that they felt like unnecessary exposition that might have been filled with something that actually drove the narrative forward or added more detail about the characters and their world.I enjoyed the story's characters to an extent, but I wish that their backstories and motivations had been a little more fleshed out. They weren't as compelling as I would have liked.The writing also felt a little amateurish, but that's to be expected from a new writer in some ways.

Review: It's my kinda corny. Again, with so many books out there very dystopic in nature, I do enjoy reading a more tongue and cheek take on superheroes. Or something more lighthearted in nature. I know I compare things to shows, movies or hobbies I enjoy but it gets the point across: Pretty much Megamind with a Same Sex couple.Yes, I am biased towards getting more superhero prose under the spotlight.

Review: Oh boy a book about a lesbian villain in love with the lesbian superhero? Yes!This book? It's not it. I'm sorry I really wanted to love this but...ehhh.So it starts of potentially fun. The main character, who...doesn't have a name? I don't think? We'll come back to that--the mc is The Best Villain basically, through virtue of being super smart, which is not a superpower she's just that smart (Tony Stark style, yes). It's actually pretty great, I love that this is just a random woman who basically hated society and decided to do her own thing. I was initially iffy about the villain mc actually, because villain, but as the mc is kind of monologueing, it grew on me. The book convinced me of it. I wanted a cold heartless villain who just sort of tripped one day and was like "oh no, she's hot" at the hero and then has to start having morals and stuff in order to get the girl. That sounds amazing and also like fanfiction in the best way! I settled in for that!And then...it's like the story forgot its own plot. Or like the author suddenly didn't want to write a villain or a hero but she had already written a fourth of it and by golly she was gonna finish it. There's some fun parts still, but the villain is just...not very villainous. I was okay with "I don't kill because then the superheroes will put real effort into stopping me," that was..fine. Sure, I'm not really looking to read about the super murderer anyway. But then it's like...the mc is basically a hero who likes to monologue and has an evil laugh and steals from banks for funsies. I'm making that sound fun but it's not, it's annoying. And then it's like, is it a satire? Some parts read like a satire, but why? I don't want a satire! A nudge and wink thing is fine, and I can suspend my disbelief, but why is my super smart supervillainess a freaking idiot? Seriously! There's oblivious and then there's DID YOU EVEN TRY!? And seriously stop telling me how villainous you are, show me! It's written like it really wanted to get turned into a comic book, and hey it'd probably be really fun as a graphic novel, but it's not a graphic novel it's a novel with good cover art so lean into it! It's a fun the-mc-is-talking-to-you style, very comic-y, and it's so close to good it almost makes me sad.All of that I could probably forgive because queer supes is still a pretty niche market. But then there's...the hero. She has a name but I forgot it because I did not, at any point, feel inclined to care about her. She's not a character. She's a cute skirt with no pockets. She seems so much like a complete different person from page to page that I genuinely though that was part of the plot, I thought there was mind control happening, it had a whole mind control build-up thing! And then bleh! Nothin! I'm sorry there's spoilers here I'm just typing and getting more and more mad! I pinned such high hopes on this!? What the hell! Why does this hero have no morals or real reason to be a hero!? I like that she's like, All The Cliche Hero Powers, she's basically superman but a woman and thus more interesting to me personally, I was pumped for that, but that's...it. She has powers and a physical design, but without a personality what the hell is the point?There is none. I don't know why this book has a sequel (two sequels!?) I wouldn't recommend AGAINST reading this, it has funny parts, it's not the worst thing I've read in my desperate search for queer books that aren't either boring romcoms or porn, but I'm not really recc'ing it either.

Which, to be honest, kind of surprised me.And I love it when I get absorbed enough into a story to not see what’s coming around the bend.This was an enjoyable superhero (love) story. Review: VILLAINS DON'T DATE HEROES is a book with the premise of, "So, what if Superman and Lex Luthor were both queer women in their twenties?" The fact this doesn't strike me as that avante garde of a premise but a perfectly reasonable one may say more about my reading tastes than it perhaps should. Then again, the conflict between heroes and villains has often been depicted in a romantic manner with the Lego Batman movie being all about the Joker's status as a spurned lover. Catwoman and Batman is an iconic romance of comic books. In this case, it's Night Terror versus Fialux.Basically, the premise of the book is Night Terror is the city's most feared supervillain and more or less can do whatever she wants until the arrival of Fialux. The Supergirl-EXPY possesses powers which defy science and leave Night Terror getting arrested for the first time in years. Infatuated with the beautiful heroine, she proceeds to come up with a variety of plans meant to capture her tormentor's attention while her A.I. CORVAC believes they should get back to the whole world domination thing.A large part of the book's appeal lies in the fact Night Terror is completely nuts and her inner monologue is adorable. It reads just like classic cartoon dialogue with the added adorability of how much she's head over heels in crush with her archnemesis. It also leads to some unexpected Silver Age directions like Night Terror putting on some glasses and becoming a university professor to get close to Fialux's secret identity (which Night Terror can't figure out because Fialux changed her hairstyle).This is a very fun book and one which I think people who enjoy superhero fiction (like me) will enjoy.
