Title: Sloppy planning: Characters aren’t true to themselves

Review: If you fell in love with the couples in the first book, don’t even bother reading this one. I’m very disappointed. Spoiler Alert: I would’ve preferred for Beatrice to give her crown to Samantha so that she can be with Connor, the love of her life. Her storyline could’ve been her and Connor spending time together in the city and avoiding the press. Then, Samantha could’ve proved her amazing potential as queen (because she had always felt like a spare) and even marry Teddy. Jefferson could’ve not been an easily manipulated fool—I wish he could’ve caught the scheming Daphne and then try to make it up to Nina after finding out she was right about Daphne all along.
Overall, this book was such a let down compared to the first. None of the characters follow their book 1 values and personalities. I’m all for character development, but swapping significant others doesn’t equal carefully crafted character development. I’m giving this book 2 stars because I love Katherine McGee’s writing style, I just feel like she didn’t do her characters justice.

Review: woah... just.... woah. The romances that happened in the forst book started off completely different in the second. We are introduced to a new love interest for Samantha, Ethan and Nina build a relationship and Beatrice and Teddy start to develop a bit of a romantic relationship.

But even better HIMARI WAKES UP!!! But in like a weird way she's so different from how I imagined her.

This book was so different from how I had expexted it to be. Things were so much more... new than expected. Especially with Marshall stepping in wheb he jad so little representation in bool one.

This book was definitly something more than expected!

Title: Enjoyable but off-kilter

Review: I was very excited for this book after having read the previous one, and enjoying all of the different characters perspectives. I was curious how they would deal with all of the different emotions and relations after the ending of the last book.

Unfortunately, I found this book lacking after enjoying the first one, and I feel as though there should be another one and am shocked that this is the final of two books in the series.

Things I did like about it:
-I liked finding out more about what America was like in this alternate universe. There is still a lot of tongue in cheek about how absurd our reality would be if it really existed, but it wasn't as in your face as the previous book. I appreciated that.
-Katherine McGee is great at setting a scene where it feels like you are right there. Maybe because I grew up in the area and even visited where all this is based (if expanded upon) it made me feel like I was back home in a way and connected with it.
-We did get more backstory for the other characters, not just the main players that are in the family. It gave more scope to the universe.

Things that weren't as enjoyable:
-With the exception of Nina, all of the characters feel like they are completely different than what they were in the previous book. I did have to remind myself that these were teenagers/just young adults, but the quickness of personality change among other things just made everyone less enjoyable on the whole.
-Jefferson, while having been a BIG part of the last book given his common connection with all of the women, does very little in this story and is just letting things happen to him. I feel like his part of the story was replaced by the new characters, and that is a shame because I feel like there could have been room for everyone.

Overall, it was a decent read but a bit of a shock after the last one. Maybe I read them too close together or am just older and wiser than to have fits of flightiness that is kind of being shown by the characters. It would be a good stand alone, but with the other book the series feels disjointed.

Review: The possibilities of this was great! The characters were there, the plot, just everything was great. I even loved the new characters, which is why I have the 3 starts. But the ending was awful! I didn't like it one little bit. It was like being on a diet and having a cheat meal. Then after you've eaten it you realized it wasn't that good and you should have just stuck to the diet. It was that kind of disappointing. It's like can we get a do over? Normally I try to find the good in a book because I know it takes a lot to create a world like this and I think the author should be praised for their efforts but I couldn't get over the end. I'm just left sitting here wishing I would have went to bed hours ago.

Review: I’d been waiting for this sequel since the moment I finished the first book and it did not disappoint. There was a lot of humor in this book, and some fun moments between a variety of characters but there was also heartache, and moments that made me want to slap people. And of course there was some romance thrown in to round things out.

As I mentioned after reading the first book, I love the concept of imagining what this country would be like if it were led by a monarchy instead of a presidency. The author has a lot of fun with rewriting history and using actual names in some places.

This is a fun read for fans of YA, rom coms, and royals. Highly recommend!

Title: Another great sequel from Katharine

Review: I love the shift in this book. It really takes this story to such an empowering place. Sequels are always a little bit hit or miss for me and this one was a grand slam. The character development of nearly everyone is incredible and relatable honestly. Even the character you were made to hate had you feeling differently at the end. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

Title: Great Sequel to American Royals

Review: I loved the first book so much and couldn't wait for the sequel to find out what happens to everyone. I enjoyed that things did not continue on predictable paths and there are some unexpected twists and turns for some of the characters. I read some reviews where people complained about that, but that's what I loved about it. People grow and change, especially people so young, so that just made them more real to me. I'm hoping there is a third book because I'd love to continue their journeys.
