Review: I love this book! There is great detail in anatomy in every action which makes 'strength workouts' more meaningful to me...and, ultimately, to you, as well. Mark Vella does a very good job with the illustrations, anatomical detail, identification, descriptions of each procedure, tips of good form, stabilization of muscles and analysis of movement for each. It includes use of machine exercises as well as free weight. Being an much older fitness buff, I use the machines for many exercises in addition to some lighter free weights. This book was helpful to me for the exercises I currently pursue
For those interested in a 'walking program', a sample 10 week progressive plan is detailed in addition to analysis of the movement of walking joints. The exercises are broken down by Aerobic Training, Abdominals, Stabilization and Balance, Chest, Legs and Hips, Back and Shoulders, Arms, Stretches and Flexibility. Younger and much older adults will find this book of value; and at home gym program descriptives are included. This beautiful book would be an excellent addition for anyone interested in the physiology and anatomy of fitness; physical therapists, physical fitness trainers, orthopedists, chiropractors, massage therapist or just a long time Senior exerciser such as me wanting more correct information on keeping fit and avoiding muscle mass depletion (sarcopenia) as we age.

Review: I love this book! The drawings are clear and well-labeled. There are many different exercises using varying types of equipment (or none) with explanations of how to do them properly.
The beginning contains a section on assessing your fitness and planning an exercise routine which I found interesting even though I did not want to plan my own routine.
Highly recommended.

Review: I have worked out for the past 20 years. Sometimes on my own, most of the time with a trainer or a program like P90X. I love working out but just couldn't make the connection in my mind on exactly what I was working out. I know I was working my shoulders, or biceps, or legs, but looked and looked for a simple book to show me what that exactly meant. Without a trainer I didn't know what to work out or why and would just do what exercises they had taught me. With this book I am so excited. It shows you everything and tells you when to work out, body type information. The thing I love the most is the diagrams of the muscles you are working with that exercise,how to do the exercise properly, and if it goes with arms biceps or arms triceps....... It is teaching me so much. I won't need anyone after I study this book enough I will finally be able to do it on my own and correctly. One of my better purchases in life.

Review: I bought this book around the same time that I got a weight lifting system because I wanted to know which exercises would help me work on specific muscles. Through this book, I was able to put together a workout plan where I wasn't losing time with multiple exercises that worked only the same muscles. The visual detail for each exercise is great and I like the information that is provided on how to do the exercise correctly and with 'good form.' This book covers a wide range of exercises, including stretches, exercises using a weight system, exercises using free weights, fitness ball exercises--even some aerobics, swimming, and walking.

Review: I am so glad I bought this book, not only they go over each muscle and function, but proper form which of coarse is very important when lifting weights, I have been doing weight training for over a year now 3-4 + a week and it brought me to curiousity on knowing my muscle and function and this explains it all! I wish I would have referred to this a lot sooner though with all the info this gave out.

Review: There are some good illustrations and pointers for good form for some exercises here. Unfortunately, it seems that the author has a really limited idea of the kinds of exercises that women do. For example, the only push ups illustrated are knee and incline, and the only pull ups are machine assisted. There is decent coverage for some things (arms, squats, rows) but all in all I wish I'd have read the list of exercises before purchasing.
