Title: A delightfully enlightening study of the human brain!

Review: When a very close relative developed symptoms of what appeared to be alzhiemer's disease at a rather early age I became interested in learning about the disease, which led me to this book. I ended up reading the entire book. It offers a fascinating peek into the most amazing organ in the human body. Bob Garret, the author was able to find a neat space between teaching and telling a story, that keeps readers interested without becoming overwhelmed, or bored with the topics. Despite it's easy to read style, the book is still surprisingly detailed and not oversimplified. The discussions are generously supported with illustrations and complemented with real world studies and accounts. Apart from Alzheimer's, some of the topics I found most interesting were in Part 2 of the book, "Motivation and Regulation of Internal States" - Chapter 6, and "Emotion and health" - Chapter 8. One of the first things that becomes clear as you read, and which is emphasized throughout the book, is the concept of localization which is the conclusion that different functions are controlled by different parts of the brain and therefore while damage to a part of the brain may affect certain functions, other functions controlled by other parts of the brain is unaffected. Prior to reading this book, I often wondered why medicines were prescribed for emotional and psychological disorders. When I read the book, I learnt that emotions and behavior are regulated through chemical interactions with receptors to the brain and therefore many psychological and emotional disturbances are really chemical imbalances. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wishes to have a quick, clear insight into the world of human behavior as a function of the brain.

Review: This book will really educate you on Brain & Behavior as it's title suggests. I bought this book for this Biological Psychology class I had at my local community college. If it wasn't for this book I may have gotten a D grade or worse in that Bio Psych class. This book explained complex subjects within the field of brain pathology, sleep science, and etc.

Me not being a science expert I was hoping this book would help me get through my Bio Psych class and it did. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves or cares about studying the brain and the behavior of humans.

Review: I found this to be an interesting, engaging, well-arranged text book. It took a complex subject which easily could be confusing and laid it out in a nice, easy manner. The course felt easy for me because this book was so efficiently designed that learning was almost effortless. This is an achievement in any subject, but is particularly appreciated in a subject like psychology, where many texts have multiple theories for many phenomena confusingly splotched together on a page without strong overarching narrative. Exceeded my expectations, reading assignments in the book were never a drag, no gristle just lean knowledge injection straight into your brain.

Review: The textbook is very well organized and put together. The images are well-chosen and are quite supplemental to the text. The text is quite simple to understand and the extra study questions have been very helpful for class. For someone who is not going to become a neurologist and merely wants to dabble in the subject, this book has been endlessly fascinating.
