Navigating Geopolitical Tides: The Emerging Iran-Pakistan Partnership

This new partnership between Iran and Pakistan is one to watch out for because it has been born out of two dangerous statements, Pakistan’s desperation and Iran’s isolation. Recently, amid the tensions in the Middle East between Iran and Israel, President Ebrahim Raisi conducted a three-day visit to Pakistan. The visit aimed to reset bilateral relationships after recent skirmishes along their border and foster an economic partnership. The goal is to elevate bilateral trade from 2 billion dollars to 10 billion dollars. Despite the enormous potential for economic cooperation presented by their 900-kilometer common border and 330 million people combined, trade between the two nations is just average. One possible hidden reason for President Raisi's visit could be Iran's strategic desire to secure a reliable ally in Pakistan, particularly in light of its growing isolation on the global stage. With increasing sanctions and diplomatic pressures, Iran may see Pakistan not only as a potential economic partner but also as a geopolitical ally to counterbalance the influence of adversarial states in the region. These two nations are caught up in a complex web of geopolitics that is dependent on outside factors.
