Review: I've tried a few of these recipes and they are delicious, just be prepared to have google handy to convert all the metric measurements into imperial, wish they had both listed, or even a small table reference in the back of the book that listed quick conversions of the most common measurements.

Review: I really wanted to love this cookbook as I enjoy cooking (and eating!) Pan-Asian, and specifically Indonesian, food at home. It is a beautiful book with clearly a lot of care put into its creation. This cookbook has authenticity in spades, which for me posed a bit of a challenge as procuring the ingredients locally was difficult to do, even at markets in Los Angeles. Having to go to several specialty grocers makes daily cooking from this cookbook unlikely for me. I would consider myself an intermediate home chef and quite a few of the recipes are far too time intensive for me. I would recommend this book for someone interested in crafting authentic, home-style Indonesian meals; not a casual weeknight home chef. It will go with my Gjelina cookbook that is equally gorgeous and inspiring, but impractical for any regular use given its level of expertise and ingredients required.

Review: This is a lovely cookbook, offering a wide window on to Indonesian cuisine. Unfortunately for American audiences it uses international measures. This is easily adjusted to, though, and I encourage USA readers to make the effort.

Review: Yes, you might need to buy a scale if you're in the US. It's worth it. There are also a few specialist ingredients that might not be available at all grocery stores. Again, it's worth it. This food is so, so good. I truly didn't know I was capable of making food this delicious until I started cooking from Coconut & Sambal.

Review: We have tried several recipes and really like the flavors. We had to make several substitutions to use ingredients we could find in our local store. That might be a function of what is common in the US. You will want measuring cups with metric and a scale.Be warned this is not for the novice cook. Many ingredients seem to appear and disappear without warning. Read the recipes several times before you get started to avoid any surprises.

Review: I like this book that’s easy to follow and produce great food. This book doesn’t have much Indonesian history other than the author’s point of view as Chinese Indonesian Australian. If you are looking for more aesthetic coffee table book, this is not it. If you’re looking cookbook with delicious recipe and easy to read, I suggest this book 100%. I bought both this book & Fire Islands cookbook by Eleanor Ford. They complement each other well for my Indonesian cooking needs. Fire Islands is written by London author and traveller but focused more on aesthetic and story of Indonesian food in each islands.
