Review: I owned a copy of this book in 1995, but lost it. This is my second copy obviously. The book is perfect for any age, as it teaches you how to strengthen your entire physique by working your muscles against each other. No weights or fancy style. Just strength development internally to give you the ability to tone and flex yourself after a warm-up. No weights or extra anything, just your muscles, ligaments and tendons are required.
This type of exercise creates a maximum of overall body resistance and a better chance of surviving a physical altercation in a natural way. Any age range can get an exceptional amount of benefits from these exercises. I am 72 yo, and am lean at 6' tall. I weigh 195 lbs. I weighed 185 in 1965 at 20-yo when I first went Airborne with the 82nd airborne division. My health is good for my age thru discipline, moderate exercise and a good diet. Love those smoothies. LOL.

The USPS took 11 days to get this book to me, afterall I had paid shipping charges. I live in Louisiana, I ordered the package on 6-6-2017. The package left California on the 7th of June, I received it on the 17th of June. That's 10 days paid shipping. Normally a package gets to me in about 5-7 days free delivery. About 5 days paid shipping. USPS does this kind of negative thing.

But anyway, the book is a good buy for anyone that wants to tone up and can discipline themselves to work out alone and feel and see results in a short period of time. Oh yeah! If you seriously follow the instructions you will get sore from these exercises. Just warm up first, ok?

Review: The first four were loaned to friends who never returned them (including one coworker who lost 15 pounds using this method, even though it's not touted as a weight-loss program) and the fifth one I gave to my son. There is no "one size fits all" exercise method, but I think some of the negative reviews are because users don't understand what this book is and isn't.

The author studied San Soo Kung Fu under Grand Master Jimmy H. Woo. Through my research I couldn't verify that GM Woo taught these exercises to the author, or included them in his curriculum, but he did practice them and maintained that he had never lifted a weight in his life. GM Woo was highly regarded as a powerful fighter and maintained an excellent physique his entire life

It's most definitely designed to compliment martial artists, but it's not limited to that. It works fine as a general fitness program. The complaints about lack of cardio? If you're harmonizing your breath correctly (diaphragmatic, like yogi's and martial artists do)with the movements you will get an aerobic benefit. Still not enough? Add some jumping jacks or rope skipping. Again, this is designed for martial artists who get a cardio workout during sparring. Not much leg work? That's because most traditional schools of Kung Fu rely on stance training, particularly horse stance, to strengthen their legs. Just do more of the recommended squats.

This is the best book I've ever seen on these types of exercises and, yes, I've seen a lot. Others may have a different opinion. It won't train you for a Mr. America competition but, depending on your applied effort, consistency and genetics, you might achieve a physique similar to Patrick Swayze's in "Roadhouse". And that wasn't too shabby....

Dec., 2017 Addition: I was aware that there was a VHS video made of Master Wong performing the Dynamic Strength exercises. It has long been unavailable for purchase (at least, I haven't been able to find it anywhere. And, like most, I no longer have a VHS player). There is an account on Youtube that has posted the video in three parts. I would not share this info if the video weren't out-of-print, because of copyright. However, watching Master Wong perform the exercise is extremely beneficial, and motivational, and should answer some of the questions by other reviewers regarding confusion about how to perform certain exercises as described in the book. Just search Youtube for "Harry Wong Dynamic Strength I Warm Up" to see the first video and link to the others. The third video is the maintenance routine with a voice-over of the philosophy of Dynamic strength. Please don't ignore that one. It is enlightening. Also, please be aware that videos can & do get removed from Youtube, so look fast! The video is a tremendous addition to the info in the book, and shows the physique and movement that Master Wong developed from the routine. It is excellent!

Review: This is one of the best books out there on combining isometrics with movement, particularly in relationship to martial arts forms. I'm quite familiar with a broad range of strength methods from traditional weights to bodyweight exercise to isometrics and this book falls into a bit of a niche of its own.

It is very well structured and explained, in a simple, efficient manner. Each movement has a description of how to do it, how many sets x reps are suggested, what muscles it has the greatest effect upon, and finally how each one will help you with your martial arts (if that is why you are doing the exercises), with kung fu in mind. Pictures are black and white, but pretty clear and easy to understand. Chock full of movements for the whole body, you really get a bang for your buck.

If you are looking to get strong without weights or more well rounded by combining this with weights, you can't go wrong. There are 3 programs, after which he explains how to create your own from the exercises given. For having been written in the early 80's, I think it is an incredible book that a value in my library and if a book like this were to be written this year, I think that it would be done pretty much the same. What I'm saying is it was done right the first time.

I wish I'd have known about this book 10-14 years ago in the Marines for use on deployments and training exercises when I didn't have access to weights, in fact I think I would have had a lot less injuries over the years if I'd have combined what is taught in this book with my lifting and military conditioning.

Can't go wrong with this one....if you get it at the right price. The used prices go up and down, so wait until it's somewhere around $20 or less. I don't want anyone to go and pay $80 used for it, or you might not appreciate the value of it as much.

Title: Inconsistent print quality, and relatively tiny print with massive margins

Review: I liked the premise; I dislike the difficulty actually reading the book; it has issues with inconsistent darkness, and faded, or missing pieces of letters, the print quality is grainy at best, and the pages look like they were reprinted onto larger pages from a smaller book as is; even the page number is offset inwards diagonally by a couple inches; I don't like giving negative reviews, and I'll give three stars for having no issue with the actual information; the print issues are bad enough that I'd take acceptable info, and a perfectly printed book over good info, and this.
