DG CROSS RIVER STATE BORDER COMMISSION ASSESSES BORDER COMMUNITIES IN CENTRAL SENATORIAL DISTRICT

Ngim Okpo, has embarked on a comprehensive assessment and project tour of border communities in the Central Senatorial District. This initiative underscores the commitment of Governor Bassey Otu's administration to bridge the gap in providing essential facilities between rural and urban centers, ensuring equitable development across the state.

During visits to Boki and Etung Local Government Areas (LGAs), with a stop at Okuni community in Ikom LGA, Hon. Ngim Okpo emphasized the pivotal role played by border communities in securing the land and fostering unity among Cross Riverians. He reiterated Governor Otu's unwavering commitment to the welfare and development of all citizens, regardless of their geographical location.

At a town hall meeting held in Etung LGA, stakeholders were reminded of the government's ongoing efforts to enhance welfare and livelihoods within border communities. The Director-General urged sincere participation from community members to facilitate effective intervention strategies tailored to their specific needs. Furthermore, the technical definition of a border community was elucidated to provide clarity and guidance to participants.

The town hall meeting witnessed commendations from notable figures, including the Paramount Ruler of Etung LGA, HRM Ntufam Raphael Ntui, who lauded Governor Otu's development initiatives and commitment to grassroots empowerment. As part of the assessment tour, the Director-General inspected various projects facilitated by the Border Communities Development Agency.

These included the NYSC Corpers' Lodge in Mkpot, Etung LGA, and a classroom block equipped with a borehole in Okuni, Ikom LGA. However, concerns were raised regarding incidents of project vandalism in Okuni, underscoring the need for community vigilance and collaboration in safeguarding public infrastructure.
