Review: It has a great amount of detail about the pre-history of Orkney, which apparently is very well preserved since the area was not too disturbed like more populated areas. Ergo there are more archeological Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic sites of consequence due to a lack of human damage. Many sites were recently discovered when erosion caused the sites to be exposed to the surface. The book probably won't be taken because of the albeit small extra weight, personal focus not being the central purpose to the trip and there being a smaller pocket booklet describing the essentials of each site. Photos will help with the rest after the sojourn.

Review: I read every word of this book. In general, I don't read books like this because I approach the world via art and visual perception. This book is full of information that I need to know because I am going to the Orkney Islands next week. This book was excellent as a study guide; however, I needed to Google a lot of historical information, sites and factoids presented by the author to actually understand what she was talking about.

Review: The Orkney Islands hold secrets to 5,000 yrs of European history. It would be such a waste to go there and not realize what you're looking at. Through copious maps and illustrations and archaeological study the author provides an excellent guide.
