Finding Peace in Surrender | Letting Go and Trusting God’s Plan

In the midst of life’s challenges and uncertainties, finding true peace can often feel elusive. We are prone to worry, anxiety, and the need for control, causing us to grip our problems tightly.

We will explore the profound concept of letting go and trusting God’s plan. Find out how surrendering can lead us to peace and contentment.

Humans Often Find it Difficult to Let Go and Trust His Plans

Humans often struggle with trusting God’s plans for us and find it difficult to let go of control. This is rooted in human nature and limited understanding of God’s ways. For instance, we struggle to let go of our desire for power. We believe we know what is best for ourselves and want to determine our own path.

As humans, our understanding is limited to present and past experiences. We often struggle to comprehend the bigger picture or the long-term implications of events. Moreover, the presence of sin and brokenness in the world can lead to doubt and fear. We may question why certain hardships and suffering exist if God truly has a plan for our lives. The consequences of sin can distort our understanding and trust in God’s goodness and sovereignty.

However, Isaiah 55:9 reminds us, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” God’s ways are higher and wiser than ours, and learning to surrender and become teachable Christians allows us to experience His perfect plans.

Some people who do not know Jesus have more trouble surrendering. That’s because trusting requires faith, which is not always easy. It involves believing in God’s character, His love, and His promises even when circumstances seem difficult or unclear.

Letting Go Does Not Mean Giving Up

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7

Letting go is a demonstration of faith and trust in God’s ability to handle your concerns.   it means we are entrusting our concerns to a loving and capable God. We understand that we are not in control. It is an act of surrender and faith, recognizing that God’s ways and plans are higher than our own.

This is also an active step of releasing the burden from ourselves and placing it in God’s hands. It is an invitation for God to work in and through our situations according to His perfect will.

Surrendering to God Will Give You Peace

When we surrender our desires, worries, and control to God, we acknowledge His sovereignty and trust in His wisdom and guidance. This surrender allows us to release the burdens that weigh us down and place them in God’s capable hands.

Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavily laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Surrendering to God does not necessarily mean that all our circumstances will immediately change, but it brings inner peace that transcends external situations. It is the assurance that God is with us, doing everything for our good, and that His plans are perfect.

How to Let Go and Let God

Christians should regularly bring their struggles before God in prayer, honestly expressing their concerns, fears, and anxieties. They can surrender their burdens to God, trusting in His wisdom and sovereignty. By releasing their struggles to Him, Christians acknowledge that God is in control and can find peace in knowing that He is working for their good.

It’s also wise to seek support from the Christian community. Sharing their burdens and seeking counsel from trusted Christian friends, mentors, or pastors can provide a sense of peace and reassurance.

Above all, practice gratitude. You can intentionally focus on the blessings in their lives and thank God for His goodness. Gratitude redirects their attention away from their struggles, fostering a sense of peace and contentment in God’s provision.

Gratitude can come in the form of praise. Worshiping God through music, hymns, and singing helps shift the focus from personal struggles to God’s greatness. Praising Him for His faithfulness, love, and power brings a sense of awe and peace. Singing songs of worship and participating in corporate worship gatherings can uplift the spirit and provide a deep sense of peace.
