Review: A beautifully written account of travels to Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar. A must read for anyone with aspirations to travel to the region, and others who previously weren’t intending to travel, will have aspirations to do so. I have added this trip to my bucket list!

The first time I have read a travelogue that is a page turner. The author uses a light tone to describe an arduous and dangerous journey. The tone in no way undermines or understates the dangers involved on the trek. The honesty of the author’s account of her lack of preparedness for the trip is endearing and real.

The author strings words together beautifully , evoking images in the readers minds, and transports the reader into her world. You become part of the group undertaking the journey, feeling their tiredness, hope and elation at reaching milestones.

The author balances the physical aspects of the journey with the spiritual effortlessly. Rather than ignore the region’s sensitive history, the author cleverly weaves historical and political nuances of the region into personal and anecdotal descriptions, giving a complete and unbiased perspective of the region’s strife.

Review: This is an extremely well written book about the author’s long desired journey to Mount Kailash and Lake Man Sarovar. Vivid descriptions of the landscapes, the surroundings, and the companions virtually transport you to the scene. The high altitude and extreme weather are not the only life-threatening circumstances they encounter on this journey. You get to know the author’s personal side through several flashbacks.

It is a great read for anyone interested in, or even just curious about, Mount Kailash and Lake Man Sarovar. It is a must read if you wish to make the journey yourself someday.

At 146 pages and short chapters, it is a quick and an easy read too.

Review: To me this was not just a travelogue. It was a creation where thoughts, feelings, opinions, facts, and mythology intermingle and play with each other. Because of the descriptive writing, I felt I was in the journey and that I could see and feel everything the writer felt and saw. I could connect with the people and the situations - I felt I had a relationship with them. It was moving because it was not just about adventures, but also about perspectives. Whether faithful or atheist, you can really relate to the book. When she talks about the silence and stillness in all things, I thought of it as the presence of god though she is an atheist and does not think so. This silence transcends all religions - when I read that part, I could feel the stillness in me.
It’s a fast read, but I went back and re-read some of my favorite parts over and over again.
One of my favorite parts is the one about borders. ‘When you are at the border-line the meaning seems to disappear. There is only earth on both sides’. It made me think of not just physical borders, but our mental borders or our perspectives. This book helps us understand that much of what we believe in is just our perspective.
I highly recommend the book - but each person will take home different things from the book.

Title: Charming memoir that had a hold on me.

Review: Lord Shiva, Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar all three caught my eyes and I thought this might be an interesting travel log. But little did I know how much interesting and inspiring this book would be. It is extremely well written and it flows taking you with it at every turn. The author has charming sense of humor and a way to describe places, people and events. The book definitely is a page turner and on many occasions could not put it down. The historical aspect of Nepal and Tibet adds much to the narrative and makes distant land so much more real.
After finishing book I felt I came home from a journey and piece of Mount Kailash forever became mine. The collection of pictures is so helpful and add so much to the book.
The book is easy read with short chapters but at the same time go deep within you. So glad one of my friend recommended this book.
