Title: Excellent and deep guide to a meaningful life

Review: There are many books on the meaning of life. Most of them are within some basic categories:
1. How to be happy... books without any original content, repeating previous recommendations again, and again, and again (good for reinforcement)
2. Religious ones... about "don't worry, God and Jesus loves you" (good for your peace of mind)
3. Philosophy... books about what long-dead people said on the topic (good for making you appearing knowledgeable and for name dropping in debates)

However, it is rare to find a book trying to really think and add something original (information, ideas, practical advises) to the topic. Frank Martela's book is one of them. The book faces the problem bravely, not shallow for a minute, yet practical and applicable. Just one example: it clearly demonstrates how philosophical "absolute" or "ultimate " meaning OF live is not really necessary for us and where we can start searching for our own personal meaning IN life. Obviously not perfect: too much emphasis on religious, "enchanted" worldview (as if it was somehow opposite to the recommended and achievable meaning in life), and too much quote from philosophers for my taste (I prefer pure science). But these are only my personal preferences - many readers may like the book exactly because of them.

Worth both the investment of time and money.

Review: I know physical CDs are not bug buying items anymore. This one seemed very easily damaged and now skips after 1 use. I loved the content and would love to have the time to read the full book, but I'd rather relisten to it. So I give it an A for content but an F on execution, so a review of a C.

Title: The definite guide to being successful 🥰

Review: The book is a great introspection into finding what truly matters to you. I started reading it just before COVID-19 was declared a pandemic and am now writing this after a month of the world in a tumble dryer. In these extraordinary times, I find it comforting to be able to understand myself – and all of humanity – and what actually matters. Hence, in these times, the title of this book could be "Science-backed multidisciplinary guide to being successful (according to metrics set by YOU)".

I hope all leaders in these times of economical crisis would read this book and find guidance to policy-making from within themselves, using the book as a tool for reflection.

Review: Other reviewers have summarized the content of this book well but I want to share a few thoughts to explain the 5 stars.

Have you reached the awareness that we are cosmically insignificant, impermanent and our values are arbitrary? Have you have ever struggled with the realization that everything vanishes sooner or later, so what is the point of struggling?

If so, this is the book you should read.

His summary of the history of the concept of the meaning of life was fresh and valuable.
His tie to human needs and values is spot on.

As he demonstrates: The answer to the question about the meaning in our life is more important than the unanswerable question about the meaning of life.

I have read more than a dozen books on this topic - this is by far the best I have read.

Frank Martela explains in this great book why we actually are thinking these issues, and why these questions are causing increasing amount of problems it today's modern society.

In addition to this, the book provides some concrete answers and instructions to how to increase the sense of meaning in our lives. I am sure, that after reading this book, you are able to live a happier life.
