THE UPS AND DOWNS OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN EDUCATION

Over the past few decades, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a huge part of the day-to-day human activities for over twenty-seven percent of humans. In the 21st century, nearly seventy-seven percent of frequently used devices have become AI-enabled. AI was invented to satisfy the never-ending desires of man. Artificial intelligence, in brief words, is the science of making machines or software that can imitate human action, function or intelligence; the machines or software themselves. AI software is attributed as the brainchild on John Mccarthy. Examples of AI software include: Apple's Siri, Amazon's Alexa, Microsoft's Cortana, The Google Assistant, etc.

AI has pitched in in numerous areas of human endeavour. AI has significantly impacted the educational sector. As a matter of fact, the adoption of AI in education (AIED) is predicted to be worth six billion US dollars by 2024. Not only the educational sector, but also businesses and finance are affected by the infusion of AI with human activities. Statistics from a recent survey conducted by the Bureau of Statistics (BS) showed that nine-in-ten businesses rely massively on AI. Artificial Intelligence has also contributed globally to agriculture. By 2025, the agricultural robotics business will be worth $20.6 billion; a total of $6.2 billion spent on drones and UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles).
