According to scientists, the amount of damage that the Sun's rays cause to Antarctic species has increased in recent years.


More of the year now passes over the frozen continent due to a hole in the ozone layer, the upper atmosphere's protective gas barrier.


Ozone depletion is thought to be mostly caused by smoke from unusual Australian wildfires that were fueled by climate change.
