Title: AMAZING RESOURCE for those who seek to live a life of charity

Review: I just started reading this book last night and I COULD NOT put it down! I was laughing out loud, voraciously turning the pages, thinking, "Yes! Yes! Yes! This man has GOT it!" Yes, Jesus told us to love our enemies and to turn the other cheek, but as this author has so rightly identified, He sort of left out the "how do I go about doing that" part, when so much of the world is filled with selfish, self-centered people. Including us! This quote particularly struck me:
"The Bible, it seems, is not so much a how-to book as a what-to-do book It tells us what we must become, but does not spell out, with perhaps a few notable exceptions..., the hows of accomplishing that mission." TOTALLY! I think of when Jesus tells his Disciples that to enter into Heaven, one must become like a little child. And I think... little kids are often loud and crying all the time and selfish (understandably, obviously)... but which part of the child should we be? LOL. I really look forward to finishing this book and learning some tools to deal with the guy who parked right behind my car the other day, almost making me miss my doctor's appointment! And my boss, who is passive aggressive. And my secretly but obviously jealous friend, and... and...
Will update when I finish, but i highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to lead the life of charity to which we Christians are called, but who struggles doing so in the in which world we live.

Review: Good instruction on how to achieve control of your life with maximum charity possible toward self and others. Christian counsellor Gregory Popcak gives practical advice on how to decipher your own motives and the real motives of others so as to avoid counter productive strategies in interpersonal relationships. I like this approach because it isn't about putting down and insulting others who are causing you grief (maybe short term satisfaction but a failure by any other measure). Also the author counsels on how to recognize limits to getting along with tough actors and he suggests ways to minimize contact when all of the common sense approaches are not working well or at all.

Review: Could be a little smoother in the writing, particularly in the beginning, but chalk full of great advice gleamed from decades of experience in his counseling practice. The exercises are daunting, but helpful. Best advice for me... Don't offer to bring the potato salad if you haven't been invited to the party! Game changer for me!
