PHINEHAS GENERATION

Introduction

Every man is a representative of his generation. All landmark achievements and valiancy in the kingdom of Christ portray a move for a generational covenant and the move of God. Phinehas did launched himself into the book of God for a generational covenant. There is need to explore deeply the life of Phinehas; his personality, his zeal, the outcome, God’s verdict and the covenant inherited.

THE MAN PHINEHAS

He was the son of Eleazar, the grandson of Aaron.( Eks.6:25) He was from the lineage of the first high priest of Israel.

He was a youth, although his age was not mentioned.( Numb 8:24). His father took over the service of priesthood from his grandfather, while he took over from his father.

He was trained in the temple and understood the fear of God and how hallowed His presence. He was a young man with:

The fear of God, the zeal for God and the things of God. A man with the mind of God;

That corruption should be purged from among His people.

Evil and immoralities should be purged and stopped among His people.

Sinners should be chastised so that there would deterrent among His people. Titus 1:13

His children be holy among other nations. 1Peter 1:15-16

His house be holy and a place of reverence.

God had warned in Lev. 11:44, 15:31 0f defiling His holy place and corrupting theirself to corrupt His holy house. Lev. 20:3

In Jeremiah 7:8, God told them that He will destroy the temple called by His name because they polluted it. 1Cor. 3:17, says if any man defile the (pollute) the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

With all these in mind, he personally worked towards them; hate to see people practise immorality.

PHINEHAS’ EXPOSITION

He was barely known before the incident in Number 25. Phinehas’ are barely known among God’s people.

He came to the fore when Israel was in whoredom with the enemy of God. The enemy through the counsel of Balaam infiltrated the people of God. Just like in our day, that the church of God is in whoredom with the world.

The enemy brought in their beautiful women to ensnare the children of God into adultery. The daughters of Jezebel are among us and are committing adultery with our Samsons. Our Dinahs are defiled; they copy immoral acts and lascivious ways.

He came to the fore when the children of God were in idolatry. Imagine the church of God in idolatry:

The idol of men. Wanting to see men and not God, the worship of men in praise singing.

The idol of denomination

Idol of building and halls. Building halls without building men. Israel trusted the physical temple and ended being destroyed. Jer.7

Human ideology. Entertainment for soul winning. Human/ academic qualifications for spiritual offices and appointment of workers in the vineyard.

Mammon.

Multitude above spirituality.

Pride and self-conceit. Unrepentance and arrogance in derailment from ancient landmark. Etc

Phinehas came to the fore at a time when there was need to appease God. (Num. 25:4-7)

God had plagued Israel.

The whole congregation were in deepest sorrow for the wrath of God was on them.

He came to the fore when the name of God was insulted.

Arise, oh ye Phinehas, in zeal, passion and power of the Holy Spirit, weapon mightier than the physical spear, to stop the plague of:

Lukewarmess, spiritual coldness, disunity, compromise of holiness standard, occultic movement, retrogression, spiritual casualties...
