In preparation for the 7th National Youth Games (NYG) scheduled to take place in Asaba, Delta State, the organizers have registered a total of 5,742 athletes and officials.
Following one of their meetings, the organizing committee revealed that 34 sporting events will be featured during the Games, which will run from September 20th to the 29th of the same month.
Among the key points discussed during the meeting was the requirement for all participating states to secure insurance coverage for their athletes and officials attending the Games. The committee stressed that states must provide evidence of payment for participation and insurance policies, which will serve as necessary clearance for entry into the Games Village.
Additionally, the committee agreed that athlete screenings would occur once, with a grace period of two days after arrival at the Games Village. They also cautioned that any state failing to participate in the screening would face disqualification.
In a commitment to maintaining fair competition, authorities warned that doping control would be rigorously enforced, with random testing of athletes during the Games. Participating states were strongly advised to discourage their athletes from using banned substances.
As for the events schedule, it will be released once the host state confirms the availability of venues for the various competitions.
