The need to respect workers.

In 2021 while I was still working at a store on the Island, A customer approached Fidelis, a merchandiser who works for Arla products. This customer belonged to the first-class citizen" if you know what I mean. He looked glamorous in his designer's suit, the atmosphere had absorbed the scent of his strong Cologne and there was not a single pimple on his face.

Fidelis on the other hand is a calm guy, but an introvert who can not be contended with. If you are familiar with temperaments and personalities, you will agree with me that introverts are short-tempered and are gifted with the ability to hold a grudge for so long, it's a gift per se.

This customer was indecisive about what he wanted in the fruits and vegetables section. Fidelis is not a direct staff of the company, but somewhat a merchandiser. Fidelis became impatient and was about to walk out when the customer called for his attention in the most disrespectful way by uttering the most devastating statement of the day, "You are one of the problems that we have in Nigeria". Fidelis was furious and in his defense, retaliated with the most aggressive tone of that day if an award was to be given, saying "It's your children and your whole descendants that are the problem of this country". What should you expect next? Where is the manager? was echoing in the atmosphere.

In conclusion, you must have assumed a query was issued to Fidelis, but unfortunately, it wasn't. Fidelis is a merchandiser and not a direct staff of the company. It's his choice to assist the staff not mandatory. We should cultivate the habit of showing respect to workers irrespective of the services they render. I have worked in different malls and I have been exposed to different temperaments which I must testify, you have to pray for patience to endure most of the harsh words we get fed with daily. But after all, it's business.
