The impact of alcoholism on a New York family is described through the eyes of a young boy. The boy's journey through a series of traumatic experiences, family shelters, and foster homes illustrates the insidious mechanism of addiction and how it propagates from one generation to the next. His struggle to survive is a story of brokenness, heartache, and hope.

Title: A tremendous lesson on the scourge of generational sin and the power of the human spirit.
Date: Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2018
Review: A non stop pager turner. Kevin Weadock presents the reader with a most painful description of his early life. Growing up with alcoholic and self consumed angry parents, Weadockβs childhood is comprised of violence and rejection, at both the hands of his own parents and a very broken foster care system. Despite facing overwhelming odds that favored his total and utter failure, Weadock perseveres. Committed to escaping the tragic life that seemed to cripple generations of his family, Weadock harnesses all his anger and focuses on education as the catalyst that would ultimately free him from both poverty and the mental anguish that was the result of years of child abuse and neglect. Weadock transforms from a child destined for drug and alcohol abuse to a highly respected biomedical engineer. His very unlikely and magnificent achievement demonstrates the power of one young manβs will and reminds us that obstacles in life are only limits to those who assume that they are powerless over their circumstances.

Title: Disturbing & Inspiring
Date: Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2020
Review: I loved this book. No, I LOVED this book!! It is a tale of sorrowful abuse and then rising from the ashes of a destroyed childhood. It is a true story. So many horrible events the author and his many siblings endured in their childhood. Disturbing, yes, but I couldnβt put this book down. It should be required reading for junior high, senior high and anyone else who feels theyβve been given a rough life. EXCELLENT!β

Title: Highly recommended!

Review: Everyone should write a book about their life, perhaps 1 page, perhaps 10. But do not publish it, keep it in the family. This brief marvelous book, on the other hand, is one of that 0.000001% of life stories THAT SHOULD BE PUBLISHED. Well written and painfully honest in telling the naked truth, with the direct matter-of-fact style of prose and engrossing richness of detail, it is an incredible memoir of heart-wrenching survival against all odds, that was impossible to put away until finished. Highly recommended!

Title: Emotionally heartfelt.

Review: Childhood trauma can make someone empathic and resilient, or it can break a person down such that life becomes an endless struggle. The author takes the reader through his childhood, with siblings, all of whom were abandoned by parental addiction and violence. This personalized the struggles inherent in growing up in a highly dysfunctional family. I highly recommend this novel.

Title: Wonderful accomplishments. Inspiring!
Date: Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2020
Review: Starts out interesting and continuously becomes more interesting, all the way to the end! I chose this rating for the wonderful accomplishments that Kevin Weadock achieved, after having had such a aimless unguided childhood! I was continuously awestruck by his determination to help others, and himself, while struggling to survive, and overcome so many obstacles! Where did you get the intuitiveness? Iβd like to read the βfine tunedβ version of the first twenty years! From the gutter to the grand. SINCERELY, Thanks, JC

Title: Abuse and addiction go hand in hand
Date: Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2021
Review: It was difficult to read about what these kids lived through and endured. Especially in the foster homes where the abuse and neglect was so hard. Thank God for the Healy's who loved the kids and wanted them. Yet the children still wanted their parents. Its a shame what alcohol drugs addiction and neglect can do to one family. Glad to see the author turn his life around and be successful and happy. I wish he would have shared what happened with all of the siblings in the end. Perhaps another book to write?

Title: a book of courage,

Review: I really enjoyed this book and found myself unable to put it down,- while horrified at the early life of this man I feel the book holds lessons for all of us.., children should never have to face conditions such as he had, yet despite that he grew up to be a fine capable man.,
