...Insists He Deserves Better Treatment

The Cross River State House of Assembly, led by Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, has decided to facilitate the immediate rehabilitation of former gold medalist in weightlifting, Mr. Bassey Etim Ironbar.

The assembly swiftly responded to an urgent matter of public importance by calling on the Cross River State government to send a delegation to Lagos State to support Ironbar, who was found roaming the streets of Ajah in a bad state.

Mr. Bassey Etim Ironbar, born in 1965 in Cross River State, gained fame in the sports world by clinching a gold medal at the 1981 National

Sports Festival.

However, times have changed, and Ironbar's life has taken an unexpected turn. Recent images captured him using his hands to carry stones to block a pothole on a poorly maintained road in Ajah, Lagos where he currently resides.

This act of civic duty, though poignant, shed light on his challenging circumstances.

Ironbar's dedication to making a positive impact in society has not wavered despite his circumstances. He stated that, his foray into weightlifting was driven by the desire to contribute positively to his community.

His gold medal win for Lagos State in the 1981 sports festival was a testament to his dedication and determination.

The member representing Abi State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Davies Ettah moved a motion in the assembly that resonated with all members. They unanimously supported the motion, recognizing the pressing need to uplift one of their own. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem in his humane nature emphasized that the 10th Assembly is the " people's assembly"and the well-being of Cross Riverians, both within and outside the state, directly affects the House.

The House therefore called on the State Government to, as a matter of urgency, send a delegation to Lagos to rehabilitate and relocate Ironbar while also calling on the Minister of Sports Development, Mr John Owan-Eno to provide palliative measures to ameliorate his condition.

Matthew Okache,

Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker.
