Title: Very disappointing

Review: I spent 2 1/2 years in Iraq from 2004 to 2007 and this book simply doesn't accurately capture the experience. In truth, it's more like John Baluchi's Animal House than what it was to be an actual security contractor in Iraq. I understand that everyone's experience may be different, but the author spends more time talking about bodily functions and being drunk than about what it was like to be there as a security contractor. I worked with several different companies and we worked with Blackwater both in Iraq and later in Afghanistan, and his description of the people does a disservice to them all.

Review: This book reads like a bunch of drunk GIs sitting in a bar and telling war stories. It is averagly written. T h e author is overly concerned in every chapter about hid chapped anus, and his bowel movements in every chapter. That said it does give a fair description of what it was like being a contractor for Black Water. Worth the kindle price but barely. My advice is to wait until il it is in the cheap books and buy it then.

Review: Wild ride of a book that gives the readers what deployment is like without the shootouts. Very entertaining that kept me laughing quite a bit. I was deployed the same time the author was contracting. The Book brought back some great memories for me. Book is worth the money and time.

Title: Comic read, not a book with too much insight into security contracting.

Review: I bought this book hoping to get a little insight into security contracting. The book is written in obvious college educated prose but with third grade toilet humor. It coldly talks about some of the messed up things the author saw. But basically switches between a keg party and matter-of-factly observing people brutally killed story line. It was intelligently written, giggly read, but not too socially redeeming.

Review: Hands down the best book about the early days of Blackwater. If you like military style humor you will love this book. Morgan captured the essence of what it was like to actually be there in the beginning. This book is fun and witty. It focuses more on the human aspect. If you want to hear about what it was like to show up as a new guy in the early days & laugh check out this book.

Review: I’ve read every book about Blackwater and watched every documentary about private security contractors. All of them tend to have a negative view of them overall and this book basically justifies all of those negative views.

The author is honest about how Blackwater operators didn’t care about hearts and minds, only about survival. Running cars off the road, shooting at them, and the absolute lack of any oversight, rules, or regulations regarding how they worked.

Lots of immature stories about how a group of young men in a war zone operate. What’s surprising is the author never once in his 18 months working in Iraq ever got hit by an IED or was involved in any abush/gun battle. The guy got paid $600 a day to risk his life but never got hit. Lucky dude. Decent book, entertaining but as the saying goes “stereotypes are deeply rooted in truths.” As such, Blackwater guys definitely live up to their name. Cocky, arrogant, and incompetent at times. All of them out to make a few bucks without a care of how they negatively impacted the overall war.

Review: Down and dirty, dont expect any pulled punches from this story. War is not pretty and people do what they need to for survival. Appreciate the gritty reality and complete lack of political correctness.
