Title: Good book but …

Review: Good book despite lacking the obvious DM input. Love the insight and the work behind it. But this book is severely lacking proofreading. There are numerous errors, beginning on the first page and the acknowledgments. There are missing words, punctuation errors et cetera. It's a great book, but the proofreader (if there even was one) needs to find another job. It's so bad it takes you out of the text as your eyes begin to look for the next error instead of focusing on the story.

Review: A noble effort by the authors to get behind the scenes of the making, promotion and tour of my all-time favorite album. The band and key players such as Flood and Daniel Miller are obviously absent. But kudos to the authors for getting input from others like Francois Kervorkian, artistic, tour and video production leads, and (although not part of the Violator story itself) Gareth Jones. Some contributors are far too leftfield, but a quick fun read nonetheless, like a dancer in one of the videos, and the daughter of the owner of the drive-in used in the Strange Too video series. I would like to have seen more fan-provided photos from the era to make this a better record of this incredible time.

Sadly, the authors and editors [were there any?] have let too many errors slip through. Worse yet, they seem to be afflicted with PAD: Paragraph Avoidance Disorder. Every sentence is its own paragraph. This makes it harder to read and recall what you just read, with the entire book reading like a list of responses to text messages. Incorporate paragraphs and this book would have used much less paper, with maybe half the weight and size: consider the impact a book twice as large as it needs to be has on the environment.

So, if like me, you're a fan of Depeche and would like to reminisce about a time that was new and exciting, then by all means support the authors with a purchase. Otherwise, you will get just as much from other sources and find them easier to consume and remember too.
