Title: Inspiring travel story

Review: Overall I found Polly's journey really inspiring. The book is a page-turner. There are many adventures and characters, and unexpected experiences.
My caveat is the writer needs to fact-check a couple of the historical contextual references. You say that Turkey is at the confluence of Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Europe. But there is no connection between Africa and Turkey.
Also, I really do sympathise with the rabid anti-Americanism you endured in Europe. Most of those people were making unfair generalisations. Indeed you travelled during a period when the US was invading countries: Iraq and Afghanistan. But you seem to celebrate with your fellow countrymen when Iraq is invaded and Saddam Hussein is captured. But what did Saddam Hussein ever do to the US? The Iraq invasion was purely revenge for 9/11, yet Iraq bore no relation to the 9/11 attacks, and Americans, including you did not take a moment to consider critically whether your military was going after the right people. Invading countries is a serious business and involves death and destruction. Going after the 9/11 perpetrators is understandable, but patience was required to get Osama, which happened eventually.

Review: Wow! What an undertaking ! What an adventure! What an education! Thank you Polly for writing your story, for sharing your journey, your good times and bad, your frustrations, your new friends, and even your battles with a spider, gnats and dogs. I'm sorry but I have to admit I laughed long and hard about your reaction to the large fuzzy spider. You accomplished your goal of walking around the world and getting the word out about early detection of breast cancer all along the way. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves adventure.

Review: I absolutely adored this book, as my husband will tell you, because I can't stop marching through the house sharing anecdotes of her remarkable adventure. It's inspiring, so funny, admirable, interesting, scary, heartfelt, and so relatable. I felt like I walked every mile with her, observing what she saw, sharing her challenges, and rooting for her endurance, both physical and mental. As a hiker, a traveler, and a woman -- I was awed by her guts, positivity, and commitment not only to her world walk, but to her humanitarian work along the way. And I learned so much! -- I've read a number of other walking/traveling books and this stands right up along with them. An exciting, inspiring read!

Title: Courageous Walker & Writer

Review: Read this book for 2 different bookclubs and both clubs loved it. It took great courage for her to set out on this adventure and stick with it for the entire journey. Also, she worked tirelessly to get it written and published which ultimately provided her with a whole new career in the publishing world. I appreciated her writing a book that told her story and didn't try to add things to make it more "interesting". It already was plenty interesting.
I'm fortunate to live in Denver where she lives so we were able to spend the afternoon with her in person for our bookclub. It's a great bookclub book and even if you can't get her in person she might do a zoom. She's a very engaging speaker too!

Title: Travel lit's 50 shades of grey. Misleading, ignorant, and boring.

Review: - she does not walk around the world (only select stretches in a handful of countries)
- she does so in the most cushy way possible (being picked up every evening and brought to her accommodatons, often multiple star hotels, and being dropped of again in the mornings) thanks to the Lions Clubs that spontaneously stepped up when her own bad planning fell apart
- her interactions and experiences with locals are so full of stereotypes and cliches that I'm not entirely convinced she actually travelled there
- she is whiney in the most pompous and privileged way imaginable (oh my gosh, the horrors of repaying all the support she is given by having to go to interviews and official events! Meanwhile the general population is struggling to keep their children fed)
- when her Lions Club network breaks down and she actually has to fend for herself (including financing her food and accommodations) and start "roughing it", she suddenly sours of the local population (in this case: all of Western Europe except the UK) and complains how unhelpful and unfriendly everyone is. Because everyone knows Europe only has the one cultural identity. Not once does she consider that she/her attitude or conduct may have something to do with apparently every single local's unwelcoming stance. I also wondered what had happened to her funds, since she suddenly had to live off apples and scraps and couldn't afford even the cheapest accommodation. She can't have had any expenses earlier as everything was paid for by the Lions or sponsored (like Bob's shipping and her flights). Something just didn't add up.
- Astonishingly, the locals suddenly get much friendlier when she arrives in English-speaking countries and the Lions are back in the game. Hmmm...
- her political ignorance irked me. She felt attacked just because the others were interested in current affairs and wanted to discuss world events. Pretending none of it is your concern is not an option if the main drivers are the officials elected by you.
- on the other hand, her ignorance just reinforced the American stereotype she was perpetuating. I just loved when she returned to the US and gushed over how Americans are the friendliest and most generous people in the world - completely ignoring the hundreds (thousands?) of people in the developing countries she had crossed who had donated what little savings they had to her cause.
- in general, she does not bring any content of value - the cultural insights are superficial at best, her experiences are repetitive and get boring quickly (has anyone counted how often she has the same two or three encounters with police?), and there is definitely no advice to be found on how to organise a similar journey of your own.
- my hardest eyeroll: towards the end of her travels she is joined by a couple in their RV, and the woman joins in her daily walks. The author is glad that finally someone experiences the hardships she has been under, namely....checking the weather reports every morning so that they know what to wear.
- This is the first book I ever stopped reading at 87%. Normally, if I've made it past 30% I will finish it because books deserve to be finished. In this case I really, really couldn't care less whether the author-protagonist made it back home or was run over by a moose.
