Selling Fred, a Manchester United mistake?

Fred is a Brazilian professional footballer who primarily plays as a midfielder. Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos, AKA Fred was born on March 5, 1993, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Fred began his professional career with Internacional in Brazil before moving to Europe to join Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013. He gained recognition for his impressive performances in the midfield, showcasing his passing, dribbling, and defensive skills.

In June 2018, Fred made a significant transfer to Manchester United in the English Premier League. He became an integral part of the team's midfield, contributing to both offensive and defensive aspects of the game. Fred's playing style is characterized by his ability to control the tempo of the game, distribute the ball effectively, and win tackles.

His versatility and work ethic have earned him a place in both club and country setups, making him a notable presence in the world of football.

However, Fred was an object of mixed opinions and reviews from pundits and fans during his time at Manchester United. A victim of undeserved criticism he has been scapegoated many times in Manchester United. Many of the fans believe he isn't good enough for Manchester United and doesn't have any business with the club, his situation in Manchester United worsened during the early period of 22/23 season with his dip in form and the arrival of Casemiro. He failed to get regular game time and was eventually sold at the beginning of the 23/24 season

Now in the summer of 2023, Manchester United are having a bad start to the season, the midfield is being overrun and the one man proven by posterity to do something about it is no longer in the club and now, the Management and fans might be forced into rethinking their decisions and verdicts on Fred.

Fred is a rabbit in the field of play, his energy to cover every inch of the pitch is second to none in the Manchester united team, then and now, this quality in particular might not guaranty him starting but definitely makes him the best option to distort the opponent's flow of play and pressure which Manchester United midfielders can't seem to manage at the moment. Fred's energetic playing style, good passing ability, his defensive contributions in the midfield, his work rate, ball recovery skills, and the ability to link up play between defense and attack is what Manchester United are lacking right now with no player currently in the team able to fill up that role once donned by Fred. Ten hag the current coach of Manchester United has a lot to ponder on. The deal for Amrabat whom fans believe can fill up the role isn't going smoothly and after his team woeful display and undeserved win against wolves on matchday one and their deserved loss against Tottenham their second match, he has to find a solution and fast before its too late.

Interestingly, the fact that the sale of Fred could have been avoided by seeing him as squad depth and for another fact that Fred has always given his 100% when called upon to play either as a starter, a substitute or unused substitute won't make the situation any easier for Ten Hag if this dreadful team performances lingers than it should.

Furthermore, the Manchester united fans are growing tired and weary as they want their club reliving the Sir Alex Ferguson days but it seems as if the team is close but so far away from the feat.

More so, after recent dramas and events at the club, including Cristiano Ronaldo unpleasant second spell and untidy departure, calls for the ousting of the Glazer's family (the club owners) in the midst of potential buyers standing in line whom the fans feel have the interest of the club at heart more compared to the Glazer family, the situation of the club might escalate just as the fans thought the club is starting to find its footing after the appointment of Erik Ten Hag and his impressive debut.

Though Manchester United have always found it way back to the top stage even in d midst of chaos as seen during Ole Gunnar solskjær time at the club and Ten hag debut season which saw him finish in the top four and lifting the Carabao cup even after defeats in his first and second games in charge, the fans feel like its not enough as the Premier league title eluding the club for ten years now is unbecoming of Manchester United.

In conclusion, selling Fred might have been a mistake but there is no time for Manchester United to wallow in such thought, the focus must be to salvage the situation, get an appropriate midfielder to fill up the role left behind by Fred and bring order and discipline to the Manchester United squad as such is obviously missing judging from their first two matches of the season.
