I joined the church choir at ECWA Gospel Gyel Bukuru in 2014 and was mentored by Stephen Abashiya, which I am forever grateful for because He has helped me to discover my purpose. I had been passionate about music although I have received feedback from my Best friend Jasper Kim that I sounded terrible.
Spiritual gifts are blessings or abilities given by God to His children through the power of the Holy Ghost. Gifts of the Spirit are given to bless and benefit those who love the Lord and seek to keep His commandments.
As God's children, we are endowed with different gifts such as prophecy, singing, healing, etc. 1 Corinthians 12:4–6 says "Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone"...Every individual carries a light and a gift in Him which can only be revealed through prayers. Prayer is the only channel through which you can discover your purpose and gift.
Application of spiritual gifts must be emphasized because it is so sad to see youths most especially the Gen Zs misusing their talents and wrongfully applying them. 1 Peter 4:10–11 says thus; "as each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—so that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen". I was a big fan of Beyonce, Davido, Megan thee stallion, Rihanna, Burna Boy, Stormzy, Tory Lanez, etc. They are so many that I can't count. I had to sit and reflect on the lives of these artists, and unfortunately, they are making no impact on my spiritual life. God gave them a gift, but is it used for His glory? You should know better.
"Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them." (Eccl 12:1). Life is too short to be lost. You can't call yourself a true Christian if you listen to Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Beyonce, Jay Z, etc. Attending their concerts is also an abomination for true believers. As Christians, our characters must be admirable and worthy of emulation far and near.
In conclusion, life is too short to be lost. It is our responsibility to make use of our gifts to positively impact lives and to promote Kingdom advancement. If you're a writer, Write to win souls, if you're a singer, use your beautiful voice to sing for God's glory and lots more. If you are yet to discover your gift, pray and examine the areas that you're good at, and most importantly, JOIN A UNIT IN YOUR CHURCH.
