Aimee had recently gone through a rough period in her life - she had lost her job, her boyfriend had left her, and she was down to her last few dollars. She was constantly feeling sorry for herself, questioning why all this bad luck had happened to her.
One day, Aimee was out walking in the park when she noticed a homeless man sitting on the park bench. He was eating a granola bar and drinking from a bottle of water. She wondered if he had experienced any good luck in his life, considering his circumstances.
As Aimee watched the man eat, he suddenly looked up and caught her eye. He smiled, and Aimee could instantly feel his warmth and kindness radiating from him. He gestured for her to take a seat next to him and offered her what looked like a part of his granola bar.
Aimee was hesitant to take the offering, but she did, grateful for the gesture. As the two began to talk, the homeless man shared stories from his life and shared how he was making the best of his circumstances. He also started to talk about resilience and how he refused to feel sorry for himself despite his situation.
As Aimee and the homeless man talked, she felt her mindset starting to shift. Despite the tough times she had been through, she was grateful for the conversation and was reminded to not focus on feelings of self-pity. Aimee thanked the man for his advice and made a mental promise to hold onto the positive attitude that he had just given her.
