During our trip, we eagerly embarked on a day snorkeling tour that commenced and concluded on the delightful island of Caye Caulker. With its sandy streets and swaying palm trees, the island exuded a pleasant and relaxed ambiance.However, the true highlight of our Belizean adventure was the mesmerizing ocean experience. Immersed in the protected waters around Caye Caulker, where fishing and hunting have been prohibited for years, we encountered an abundance of marine animals unafraid of human presence. Witnessing a graceful manatee playfully rolling over on the seabed was a breathtaking sight. The curious nurse sharks also left a lasting impression, gently examining us, seemingly wondering if we carried any treats. Although these sharks pose no threat to humans, their excitement to greet visitors added an exhilarating dimension to the encounter.Our snorkeling journey unveiled an underwater wonderland teeming with life. We marveled at the delicate seahorse, elegant stingrays, and a myriad of brilliantly colored fish and turtles, all amidst the breathtaking coral formations.While such excursions can be somewhat pricey in Belize, we found the experience to be priceless. If you plan on embarking on a similar trip, I recommend choosing an eco-agency that refrains from feeding the fish. Feeding disrupts their natural behavior and dependence on humans for sustenance. Additionally, opt for a coral-friendly sunscreen, or consider wearing a t-shirt while diving. Much of Belize is cloaked in lush forests, providing a haven for a diverse array of wildlife. Among these inhabitants is the elusive jaguar, a challenge to spot. However, the captivating howler monkeys, particularly the endemic black howler monkeys of the Yucatan Peninsula, offer a more accessible encounter, not only through sight but also through their resounding calls. These monkeys inhabit the treetops, never setting foot on the ground, yet their roars can reach an astounding 90 decibels, leaving no doubt about their presence. Their distinctive calls serve as a prelude to catching a glimpse of them, if one is fortunate enough.In Belize, there exists a unique sanctuary known as the Community Baboon Sanctuary, a product of local initiative by the village of Bermuda Landing. This sanctuary preserves a part of the forest to offer a peaceful abode for the monkeys. While it remains a natural environment, there are no guarantees of seeing these creatures. However, the knowledgeable local guides possess a deep understanding of the howler monkeys' habits and have a great track record in spotting or enticing them to appear. During our visit, our guide had an amusing method of calling the monkeys, playfully summoning them with the words, "Come, baby, come!" while mimicking their distinctive calls.As we strolled through the jungle, the guide shared captivating insights about Belize and the local ecosystem while simultaneously luring the monkeys with his calls. After about half an hour, our patience paid off, and the jungle echoed with the harmonious roars of the howler monkeys. Following the sound, we finally caught a glimpse of these charismatic creatures. The guide offered a fern stem from the forest floor, presenting it as a gentle gesture to the monkeys. One brave individual ventured closer, skillfully using its tail to cling to a tree branch while deftly plucking leaves and munching on them. Meanwhile, the other monkeys continued their melodious "concert" in the treetops.

3. Maya archaeological sites
