RABIES VACCINATION IN MUMBWA DISTRICT

Mumbwa District has recorded an increase in dog-bite cases over the second quarter of the year 2023. This increase has been attributed to rabies as some confirmed cases of rabies have been recorded in two areas of the district namely Naluvwi and Kashinka areas. For this reason the district has begun a robust free rabies vaccination in the two areas of the district. Mumbwa District Veterinary Officer Dr. Martha Sakala has called on pet owners to register and have their pets vaccinated as the district working together with Zambia police will in two weeks time begin elimination of stray dogs in the district and the pets which will not be tagged or registered will be eliminated. During this vaccination campaign the dog in the picture was spotted with a rare eye disease suspected to be eye-catalact.

What do you understand by this condition?
