Chapter 29 - EPISODE 29 PAIN AND ANGONY (PSALM 34:18)
We all experience pain in life, whether emotional or physical pain. No pain is alike, we must all walk the journey and path that God has for our lives, yet God promises that there is a purpose in all pain. We can press on each day knowing that our God loves us and wants to use the hurt and pain in this world to bring Him glory.
Rejoice had just finished her NYSC (Nigeria Youth Service Corp) when her life took a different turn. In February 2019, Rejoice became very sick and the medical report stated she had chronic stomach ulcer. She bleeds from her nose and mouth because of the sever pain. Rejoice was in pains day and night, the medications she was taking seemed as though they were useless, what seemed to work for other patients did not work for her. A friend of the family was deeply concerned about the situation and bought some supplements for Rejoice, miraculously the supplements worked. After three months of good health the pains surfaced again, she was placed on analgesic injections on a daily basis.
In year 2020, Rejoice began to experience migraine headache. This causes her to have memory loss, everyday she wakes and go to bed with pains. It became so serious that she had to undergo M.R.I SCAN. The results of the scan claimed there was nothing wrong with her brain and was working perfectly fine. A few weeks later, she started experiencing pain on the left side of her abdomen, this affected her menstrual flow causing her to loose so much blood and also have excruciating pain. Rejoice was rushed to the hospital again, the doctor ran tests and the medical report stated that she has low blood count, and ovary inflammation. Rejoice was placed on heavy antibiotics and injections. Every two weeks, Rejoice was always down with typhoid and malaria, medications were not working it only suppresses it. Hazon and Maraya were so disturbed at the whole situation, they could not believe that two of their daughters would be laying sick. The situation was becoming so alarming. Friends and family who had their interest at heart were praying whole heartedly to God to change the situation of this family.
Psalm 34:18 says, "The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit".
Rejoice has never been admitted in the hospital, but the first time in 26 years of her life she was hospitalized. Rejoice was constantly indoors, she couldn't move around, she couldn't go to church, she kept crying because of the physical and emotional pain, her life became stagnant no job, no business to call her own, she became a shadow of herself.
Hazon received a call and was informed that his father had passed on. Hazon called for a little gathering with his family to celebrate the long life his father lived. All the women gathered in the kitchen to cook. Maraya's in-laws asked after Rejoice and she told them that Rejoice has been down. Hazon's sister Hauwa said, "she should be sorry for her life", Maraya rebuked her immediately and said, "don't make such statement about my daughter, her life is very much okay and the grace of God is upon her life", Hauwa then apologized for making such statement.
Rejoice had suitors who wanted her hand in marriage, but for some reasons they backed out. Unknowingly to Rejoice, Hauwa laid a curse on her saying, "over my dead body will Rejoice get married, she will remain single and continue to stay in her father's house". Rejoice did nothing to this woman that will warrant her to place a curse on her. She was filled with hatred and jealousy.
Depression began to set in little by little, Rejoice started loosing faith in God. The spiritual attack was too much on Rejoice and God said through her friends and pastors that she should leave the state for a while. Hazon and Maraya were skeptical about Rejoice leaving home without good health, but regardless of the situation they obeyed. Rejoice did as she was instructed by God and moved to the central part of Nigeria. Rejoice was away from home for three months, she attended several job interviews and she began to have peace of mind. Rejoice finally got a job January 2021, she was so happy to get a living for herself, but the worst was yet to come.
The same year 2020, in the month of June, Maraya became very sick, she was down with stress, malaria and typhoid, she was gradually loosing her life when she was rushed to the hospital. Hazon was crying like a baby afraid of loosing his dear wife. Friends and family were praying to God to have mercy and take control of the whole situation. Hauwa and Samuel couldn't wait to hear bad news so to rejoice at their victory, but the Lord Jesus did not allow it and put hem to shame. Maraya spent three days at the hospital before she became whole and well.
