Pelican Stars FC of Calabar, emerged winners of the Maiden Edition of the Queen's Cup Female Football Tournament 2024, defeating Imo Strikers FC in the final game of the competition. The city of Calabar and its environs woke to beehives of sporting activities over the past few weeks that saw six (6) female teams battle for the ultimate crown.

After a scintillating display of athleticism, talents, skills, resilience and determination, Pelican Stars triumphed over Imo Strikers to clinched the trophy. Pelican Stars opened scoring after a swift flow of attack in the opening minutes of proceedings as Imo Strikers responded in a rapid manner that saw them score twice in quick succession to establish a lead going into the locker room at half time for pep talks.

However Pelican Stars returned all fired up after the break as they equalised to re-establish a lead in the dying minutes of the second half through a penalty that saw them come out victorious. Presenting the trophy, H.E, Rev.Mrs.Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, who expressed her profound gratitude to God whilst pouring encomiums and accolades on her husband, the State's Governor, H.E, Sen.Prince Bassey Edet Otu for his unwavering support and commitment to the upliftment of sports in the State.

Furthermore she applauded other dignitaries present at the finals for finding time to grace the occasion whilst commending the champions Pelican Stars for their exceptional talent, dedication, skills and hard work on the field, showcasing their commitment in sports and representing the state with pride.

The event also saw Imo Strikers taking the 2nd position, and Ibom Angels securing the 3rd position. The Best Goalkeeper went to Evelyn Bassey of Pelican Stars, with presentation of medals and individual awards to deserving dignitaries like ; High-Chief Edem Duke, Hon. Agnes Atsu, Barr.
