COVID-19, also known as the novel coronavirus, is a highly contagious respiratory illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It first emerged in Wuhan, China in late 2019 and has since spread to become a global pandemic. COVID-19 can range in severity from mild to severe, and can lead to severe respiratory illness, including pneumonia and death. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, people are advised to practice good hygiene such as washing their hands frequently, wearing masks in public settings, and maintaining social distance. There is currently no specific treatment for COVID-19, but research is ongoing to develop vaccines and antiviral therapies.
