I was hungry, so hungry that, I nearly started crying

I GOT TO MY DAD’S SHOP AND HE WAS NOT IN

His neighbor saw the mess of a soul I was In that moment and asked if I was going to trekk home, I told him that was my only option and he gave me a crispy 100 naira note.

I gave a sigh of relief and folded the money.

I dipped the money into the depths of my back pocket. I paintstakingly did, like my soul depended on it.

It was my only hope of avoiding trekking, under the scorching sun.

I hopped into the back seat of a 9 seater bus.

I was just smiling, I hadn’t eaten, but there was this euphoria wrapped around the temporal comfort of not trekking home.

5 minutes into the journey.

A young man, seating directly In front of me, looked up, like one freed from a spell.

He sighed and said.

“This Ronaldo no just reach Messi anywhere abeg”

Immediately after that statement, there was an unforeseen eruption, it stole the attention of everyone and tied it to the young man. Within split seconds, there was a recruitment of teammates the proposing team, had 3 members, including the driver, then the opposing team had just me and 2 other members.

It was a huge one, I enjoyed every bit of the argument.

As a staunch Ronaldo fan, I supported him with crude evidences backing up my oppositions.. I insulted every member of the proposing team, the driver was the one who received, a huge part of my insulting statements.

Like I said it was a good one, we won the argument and as the team lead everyone accorded me accolades due me. I felt like a king and I said it.

I got to my junction and alighted, I dipped my hand in my pocket and didn’t see 100 naira note..

I plunged my hand deeper and nothing was there. I suddenly started shivering. I checked where I was sitting and nothing was there.

It was then, I knew I was in for something big.

It was hard to believe, because I didn’t see it coming.

The driver, a well built young man in his early 30’s stepped down and gave me the beating of my life... While he was beating me, I heard him say “ordinarily he would let me go, but because I insulted him, he won’t forgive me..”

Little did I know the driver was a potter, coz he literally remolded my face with heavy slaps.

When he was satisfied. He got into the bus and one of my teammates offered to pay him the money...

I looked at him pained and speec
